Description

Position Summary:

Provides safe, quality patient care in the Peri-Operative Unit (Pre-Op, Recovery, and Operating Room). Accountable for the assessing, planning, implementing, and coordinating patient care from admission to discharge.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Ensuring a high standard of nursing care to patients in the Hutchinson Ambulatory Surgery Center, working within company policies and procedures and nursing standards
  • Assess patient status on admission to the pre-op area, the operating room, and/or the post-op area, on a continuing basis.
  • Providing assistance during surgical procedures and ensuring safe working practices
  • Setting, monitoring, and maintaining excellent standards of nursing care.
  • Safely carries out physicians orders correctly and promptly, documenting all activities
  • Maintaining personal contact with patients and relatives, being sensitive to their needs for courtesy, dignity, and privacy and ensuring a friendly environment at all times.
  • Maintaining timely and accurate nursing records and ensuring that confidentiality is respected.
  • Storing, checking, and administering medication in accordance with established standards and guidelines.
  • Working with minimal supervision during surgical procedures, admission and recovery of patients and other related procedures
  • Contributing to the local resolution, investigation and follow up action of any informal or formal grievances.
  • Takes part in pre and post-op phone calls and communicates any problems to the supervisor.
  • Maintain competencies in conscious sedation administration and monitoring of sedated patients, including airway protection, assessment, and support of sedated patients.
  • Ensuring the safe discharge of all patients from the Surgical Unit.
  • Maintaining a safe and clean environment within the clinical and surgical area in accordance with established standards and regulations.
  • Assists anesthesia with set up and tear down of anesthesia and monitoring equipment.
  • Solid understanding of safety principles, asepsis, sterile technique and universal precautions.
  • Demonstrates responsibility and accountability for professional practice and continued professional growth. Attends all in-services and meetings as appropriate.
  • Performs other duties that may be assigned from time to time.

  • Performs all Essential Job functions and responsibilities.
  • Maintains a professional and positive attitude, appearance and relationship with patients and staff.
  • Observes facilities guidelines and polices.

Qualifications


Qualifications:

  • Experience: Minimum 2 year of experience in an RN related healthcare position.
  • Education: Must be a licensed registered nurse (RN) in the state of Kansas.

BLS, ACLS, and PALS are required.

  • Other Skills:
    • Ability to care for patients undergoing surgical procedures and to provide technical and nursing assistance during such procedures.
    • Ability to correlate clinical data with nursing care.
    • Ability to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care according to individual needs.
    • Must demonstrate an understanding of clinical risk.
    • Ability to direct and provide for patient care in emergency situations.
    • Knowledge of EMR system.
    • Must demonstrate consistent professional conduct and meticulous attention to detail.
    • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication as well as excellent interpersonal skills with patients, staff, and other health care professionals.
    • Works to achieve and maintain regulatory certification of the HASC.
    • Must be willing to flex work hours as needed and/or requested by the HASC Supervisor.

Physical Requirements:

  • Occasionally lift or carry items weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Requires full range of body motion.
  • Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time.
  • Vision and hearing to normal range.
  • Exposure to communicable diseases and toxic substances.
