Job Details Job Location Huston-Tillotson University - AUSTIN, TX Salary Range $40,000.00 - $45,000.00 Salary/year Description The Default Prevention / Financial Literacy Coordinator reports directly to the Director of Financial Aid and works closely with all staff in the Financial Aid Office to ensure that loans are processed in a timely manner. Responsibilities:
Primary responsibility is to contact former students (graduates and withdrawals) who are delinquent on federal student loans (FFELP and Direct), and counsel them on making payments to bring account current and/or assisting them with deferment and forbearance forms in an effort to prevent defaults
Perform early / late default intervention initiatives and provide financial literacy instruction throughout the various stages of the students lifecycle. Initiatives include coordinating financial literacy, FAFSA, and scholarship workshops
Facilitate constant and ongoing efforts for minimizing delinquency and default on student loans by following up with letters, emails, and phone calls to former students. Must work late two days per week to call students after hours who are delinquent and close to default on loans
Facilitate entrance and exit counseling session via internet based tools and in-person and group sessions
Ensure that all borrowers receive current information regarding their student loans upon request
Initiate contact with former students (graduates and withdrawals) regarding their federal student loan status through mail, email, text messaging and phone calls. Topics of discussion will include grace periods, repayment responsibilities, payment plans, etc.
Collaborate with the University Registrar on updating school records when new information is received and reports the new information to the borrowers lenders(s)
Follow-up with students who are delinquent on students loans through web, mail, and / or phone campaigns to discuss payment options
Assist Director of Financial Aid with compiling data for future grant writing initiatives and internal / external reporting
Certify loans for current borrowers utilizing Jenzabar CX, and monitor posting of the loans to the students accounts
Mail loan disbursement notifications to current student loan borrowers
Maintain database of student loans borrowers who have opted in to receive text messages from the Financial Aid Office
Update FAMS (Financial Aid Management System) for students who completed Entrance , Exit Counseling and Financial Literacy sessions
Maintain accurate records of students served and outcomes
Serve on the HT Persistence Committee
Assist Director of Financial Aid with other assignments and projects as needed.
Qualifications Qualifications: Bachelors degree or higher from a regionally accredited college or university Strong understanding of federal (FFELP and Direct) student loans Prior experience in default prevention, preferably in a college or university setting Prior experience in collections, preferably in a college or university setting Highly detailed and organized Ability to complete assignments in a timely manner Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a focus on customer service Microsoft Office proficiency- Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook Proven business analysis and project management skills on complex information technology systems Occasional training and study required Commitment to the Vision and Mission of the University.
