Salary: $15.12 to $19.15 depending on job experience

Job Description

The Huntsville-Madison County 9-1-1 Center is looking for a responsible person to work as a custodian that will help maintain a clean working environment for all employees. This job includes general cleaning, vacuuming, scrubbing, sanitation control, and trash removal. To be successful in this job you must be a self-starter, motivated, organized, and task oriented. You must also be able to work in a small team environment receiving inputs and feedback from several people.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

• Perform daily cleaning and sanitizing as needed
• Sweep, mop and vacuum floors
• Wash and sanitize toilets, sinks and showers
• Restock disposables such as soap and paper towels
• Clean mirrors and windows
• Occasionally perform tasks that include loading, unloading, lifting, and moving light-weight materials

Essential Functions:

• Coordinate with supervisor to ensure critical daily cleaning and garbage removal tasks are completed
• Clean and sanitize building as directed
• Follow cleaning procedures and schedule
• Keep facility clean and attractive
• Perform deep cleaning of facilities on a regular basis
• Perform very limited grounds maintenance
• Perform other related duties as directed

Qualifications:

• A desire to work in the custodial field
• Previous custodial or janitorial experience preferred
• Must be self-motivated, diligent and detail oriented
• Must be friendly to others
• Occasionally work some flexible schedules during weekends and holidays, as needed
• Ability to work well with others
• Physically able to lift, bend, stoop, climb, and reach
• Maintain attention to detail and strive for excellence
• Possess and maintain a valid Alabama Driver’s License, or equivalent
• High School Diploma or GED preferred, but not necessary

Required Qualifications:

• Pass a thorough background check and polygraph test
• Pass a basic physical exam - relevant to job
• Pass a pre-employment drug screening
