Overview

Job Summary:

Refills pyxis accurately; including pulling correct medication from stock, appropriate quantity, complies with check off procedures, correctly places product in nursing area pyxis- verifying quantities and expiration dates. Aware of pyxis reports and can utilize them when needed.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities / Essential Functions

1. Uses aseptic technique to accurately prepare IV medications, once trained.

2. Refills pyxis accurately; including pulling correct medication from stock, appropriate quantity, complies with check off procedures, correctly places product in nursing area pyxis- verifying quantities and expiration dates. Aware of pyxis reports and can utilize them when needed.

3. Checks in daily medication order and appropriately processes items and invoices. Aware of process for missing items or special order items. Ensures all medications are properly stored.

4. Assists with quality management as directed: current with assigned unit inspections, PI projects, area cleaning, process out of date medications, crash cart inspections.

5. Accurately labels and or packages medications; including patient specific items, unit dosing, compounding.

6. Makes timely deliveries of medications to patient care areas.

7. Answers the phone in a courteous manner and directs call as appropriate.

8. Assists with training new employees.

Qualifications

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Experience Required: KNOWLEDGE OF MEDICATIONS

BASIC COMPUTER SKILLS

Education: high school diploma

Experience: 1 year with hospital Pharmacy preferred, retail is acceptable

Registered and current with Alabama State Board of Pharmacy
