The COPD Coordinator will work in collaboration with all members of a multi-disciplinary healthcare team to ensure continuity of care relating to patients diagnosed with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. The COPD Coordinator is charged with aiding in providing necessary education and in-services to healthcare providers relating to pulmonary diseases and smoking cessation, acting as a liaison for physicians nurses respiratory therapy and case management to promote improved discharge planning, encourage adherence to best practices for pulmonary diseases, and to remain current with Medicare regulations for COPD management and readmissions. The COPD Coordinator is responsible for assessing, documenting and trending outcomes of patients admitted with mild to severe chronic obstructive disease and to report those outcomes.
Education/Licensure/Certifications
HS/GED Required. Must be licensed by the ASBRT and registered by the NBRC. Certification for Pulmonary Disease Educator course through the AARC and certification in Smoking Cessation is preferred upon hiring and required within the first year of employment. Certification of BLS is preferred for hiral processes and required within the orientation period, not to exceed 90 days of hire or transfer.
Experience
Minimum of two years of experience performing critical care therapy is mandatory while experience in COPD management or Pulmonary Rehabilitation is preferred.
Additional Skills/Abilities
Must have excellent communication skills with the ability to work in a fast paced environment, requiring prioritizing and changing tasks frequently and quickly. Must have excellent clinical and teaching skills in all areas of Respiratory Care and the ability to perform and recommend procedures in all areas of Bronchial Hygiene, Oxygen Therapy, non-invasive cardiology, Respiratory Diagnostic Procedures, and Mechanical Ventilation in Critical / Non Critical care settings. Must be able to organize and accomplish goals while meeting deadlines, and to properly maintain work schedules. Analytical ability with a working knowledge of statistics is required in order to gather and interpret data in situations where the problems are somewhat complex. Must be proficient in the use of computer, to include word processing, database and spreadsheet applications.
