6th Grade Elementary Teacher - Huntsville College Preparatory School -2024/2025 School Year

This is a full-time position

Summary: Huntsville College Preparatory School is the difference between going to school and experiencing education. Using AVK (Audio, Visual, Kinesthetic) methods of implementation, our teachers create a flexible, fun and engaging instructional experience favorable to learning and personal growth; to establish effective rapport with students, to motivate pupils to develop attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for intermediate grade education, in accordance with each pupil's current skill level; to establish good relationships with parents/guardians and staff.

Teacher Responsibilities:

  • Able to differentiate teaching methods for a variety of student learners
  • Possess a teachable and humble attitude.
  • Establishing a developmentally appropriate, positive, inclusive, and safe learning environment that is conducive to learning
  • Advancing positive interpersonal relationships with coworkers and students
  • Communicating proficiently with students
  • Implementing the school’s chosen curriculum
  • Effectively utilizes technologies appropriate to the position and assumes responsibility for attending training needed to successfully perform designated responsibilities as directed by the supervisor.
  • Maintains regular attendance.
  • Complies with State Law and Schools policies and regulations.
  • Maintains a safe environment for students, conducive to learning.
  • Instructs pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter specified by ALSDE policy.
  • Develops lesson plans and instructional material and provides individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil.
  • Meeting with students and parents to discuss education-related issues and attending staff meetings.
  • Task analyzes and translates lessons into developmentally appropriate learning experiences.
  • Models lessons for students.
  • Uses effective Classroom Management techniques.
  • Establishes, shares, and maintains standards of pupil behavior to achieve an effective learning atmosphere.
  • Anticipates and effectively addresses unforeseen crises associated with working with small groups of children.
  • Evaluates pupils' academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records and prepares progress reports.
  • Identifies pupil needs and makes appropriate referrals and develops strategies for individual education plans.
  • Provides individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of the student.
  • Is an eager contributor to the team and school environment.

Pay is based on the teacher’s experience, degree, position and areas of specialization.

Qualifications/Requirements: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree in elementary education
  • Proficient knowledge of teaching strategies and methods
  • Proficient knowledge of applicable laws, policies, and procedures
  • Excellent people skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Outstanding organizational skills
  • Proficient computer skills
  • Availability to work extended hours on occasions
  • Teaching: 2 years (Preferred)

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of administrators, staff and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY:

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:

  • Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programs; ability to plan and implement lessons based on division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers, and parents; skill in oral and written communication. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and School Board policies.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and talk or hear and sometimes walk and sit. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift up to 50 lbs such as boxes of books and AV/VCR carts. The employee is directly responsible for safety, well-being, or work output of other people. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus. The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.
