Hunt, Guillot & Associates is Hiring a Construction Inspector (HGA-OR) Near Eugene, OR

HGA is seeking inspectors to perform residential damage assessments to support Oregon's long-term recovery from disasters occurring in 2020. The Residential Property Inspector (Inspector), also known as the damage assessor, performs comprehensive damage assessments, similar to that of a large loss insurance claims adjustor. The Residential Property Inspector is an independent contractor position and is compensated per completed inspection unit.
The Inspector performs damage assessments to document completed repairs and establish the scope of work for homeowner rehabilitation and reconstruction projects funded by HUD’s Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) Program. While utilizing Xactimate estimating software, the Inspector is required to accurately identify, document, and itemize the scope of work completed and remaining.
Inspections will be performed throughout the state – primarily in Western Oregon counties such as Lane, Linn, Jackson, Marion, and Clackamas– beginning mid 2023 and are expected to last 1-2 years.
Duties & Responsibilities:
The Inspector must attend required training and maintain a complete understanding of all applicable Program policies, requirements, and procedures while working independently to manage inspection assignments.
In addition, the Inspector’s responsibilities include the following:
  • Contact homeowners and schedule all appointments.
  • Document activities and homeowner communications in Xactimate and XactAnalysis.
  • Inspect all interior and exterior areas of each home, including crawlspaces, attics, and roofs.
  • Take photographs, record scope notes, and complete checklists or other forms as required.
  • Measure, diagram, and input floorplans, elevations, and other areas as required into Xactimate Sketch.
  • Enter field data and eligible scope into Xactimate and generate estimates for completed work and prospective repair work.
  • Perform initial damage assessments, progress inspections and final inspections in accordance with program guidelines and requirements.
Desired Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
  • Strong Xactimate proficiency – user certification preferred.
  • Ability to manage time and resources efficiently.
  • Highly organized and detail oriented.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of the ADA and Section 504.
  • Knowledge of Housing Quality Standards (HQS) and building codes/standards.
  • Excellent typing skills and proficient in all Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to react promptly and efficiently to shifting priorities and guidelines.
  • Capability and willingness to learn, understand, and apply new technologies.
  • Experience with CDBG-DR housing and/or similar programs preferred.
Qualifications:
Inspector candidates should possess the qualifications identified below:
  • At least two (2) years of residential property inspection experience utilizing Xactimate.
  • Ability to accurately scope storm related damage and accurately sketch and enter all variables and line items into Xactimate.
  • Possess laptop, laser measuring device, ladder, camera, and other tools as necessary.
  • Ability to access and inspect all areas of a subject home.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, strong analytical skills, ability to work independently, and effective interpersonal skills.
