SUMMARY:
One of HSU’s critical departments to fulfill our mission to end pain, fear and suffering in all animals is Humane Education. We believe that educating younger generations is the key to ensuring better lives for animals. We are currently seeking seasonal Camp Counselors with creative and energetic personalities to work with the Humane Education Department during our 2024 HERO Summer Camp.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
During a typical day at the week-long HERO Summer Camp, children will participate in age-appropriate humane education workshops, presentations, games, field trips, and more. Workshops will focus on different types of animals each day, many with visitors - two-legged, four-legged, finned and feathered - from other animal welfare groups in Utah. Our goal is to provide campers with information and experiences that will foster a sense of empathy, appreciation, and respect for all animals!
The role of Camp Counselors is to work with the children and help facilitate the many different activities throughout the week. Counselors will help with set-up and clean up, and manage children’s behavior, monitoring/supervising during lunch break and playtime. Counselors will be meeting a variety of animals, but the main focus of the position is supervising the children.
REQUIRED:
● Must be at least 18 years of age with a clean criminal background check (background check to be paid for by you, the job candidate, not HSU).
● Must be dependable, reliable, mature and responsible. You must be able to work the entire duration of camp.
● Experience working with children is required.
● Ability to maintain an upbeat and enthusiastic attitude in stressful situations dealing with children.
● Ability to follow direction, and display teamwork and leadership skills.
