GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Thrift Store Manager is responsible for all aspects of retail operations and soliciting donations, including profitability, staffing, supervising and training, retail merchandising, inventory control, customer service, employee/volunteer relations, and safety compliance. The position reports to the Director of Operations.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

• Demonstrates and provides extraordinary customer service skills on the sales floor

• Establish and maintain the thrift store policies and procedures

• Monitor store inventory to maintain appropriate inventory levels of both donated and retail goods

• Order and maintain appropriate supplies needed for day-to-day operations

• Train, supervise, direct, motivate, recruit and mentor supporting staff and volunteers

• Work with Volunteer Coordinator to recruit/develop volunteers necessary in maintaining the thrift store

• Coordinate pricing, merchandising and sale of products

• Create sales and promotions to help drive sales

• Oversees the display of merchandise to enhance the appearance and appeal of the store

• Monitor and provide solutions for safety and security concerns and maintain ADA compliance at all times

• Communicate any maintenance issues and concerns with the office coordinator.

• Establish agreements and contact vendors on a regular basis to remove items for recycling assuring best profitable outcome

• Accept, process, and price donations to achieve sales goals

• Perform work activities of thrift staff and volunteers, such as cleaning and organizing shelves and displays, and sales of merchandise

• Complete basic accounting and cash handling procedures

• Track daily, monthly and yearly sales utilizing QuickBooks powered cash register and software

• Attend board meetings, prepare monthly departmental reports and attend fundraising events as needed

• Be comfortable using indeed and hiring platforms to maintain adequate staffing

• Maintain social media presence through Facebook and Instagram for HSNCF Thrift Store

• Act in a public relations manner and represent HSNCF with customers and donors

• Develop and deliver events/promotions to gain new customers and donors

• Perform and coordinate donation pickups from donors

• Meet monthly sales goals

• Work with, support, engage and delegate tasks to volunteers as appropriate.

• Perform other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

• Positive attitude, outgoing personality, and amazing customer service skills

• Associate Degree or higher education preferred, equivalent work experience considered

• Two years supervisory experience in a customer services oriented business or non-profit

• Solid knowledge of retail operations

• Proficiency with computer-based sales and inventory systems

• Passion for animal welfare and the mission set forth by HSNCF

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

• Effective communicator both in speech and writing, specifically in tense or emotional situations

• Proficient in Microsoft Office programs, and web-based applications such as Gmail and Google Docs

• Excels in creative problem solving, prioritizing, multi-tasking and taking initiative

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

• Must be in good health. Any allergic condition that would be aggravated from exposure or through contact with animals or chemicals used to sanitize facilities, vehicles or equipment, is a disqualification.

• Must stand, walk, bend and stoop frequently to perform duties. Have the ability to perform prolonged strenuous physical activity, including lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 40 pounds alone or up to 100 pounds with the help of fellow employees for short distances.

• May be exposed to hostile or abusive members of the public. Must be able to deal with an often times emotion-charged public and carry a fast paced and changing workload which at times can be stressful.

• Must be available and willing to work such weekends, holidays, overtime, and attend mandatory training and meetings as the employer determines are necessary or desirable to meet its business needs.

Valid driver’s license and clean driving history required

Full Time: 40 hours/week Tuesday-Saturday

Salary Range: $37,000-$40,000
