Position Overview:

The Director of Research and Market Insights will be responsible for building our research insights, processes, and infrastructure. By doing this, the Director will help us fully understand our customers, audience, and competitive positioning within our market to inform our brand development, product marketing and product roadmap. This person will have deep experience with quantitative and qualitative research methods and software, possess a commercially focused mentality, and have a strong analytical mind. They will provide research driven data insights to guide decision making at HRCI. With a strategic lens, the Director will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of the HR certification and learning landscape.

  • Develop and execute the organization's research strategy by translating business objectives into research steps (identify user segments, determine questions we need to answer, choose, and implement a methodology, analyze results). 
  • Conduct customer, consumer, brand, market, and concept research. 
  • Design, coordinate and execute strategic qualitative and quantitative research projects involving a wide range of methodologies and tools, such as focus groups, surveys, interviews, participant observation, and secondary data research. 
  • Construct and maintain a research bank for analyzing research data and storing findings so that ongoing research can be easily accessed. 
  • Develop systems to ensure research is embedded in the wider organization to educate and inform product, marketing, and customer service.
  • Prepare and submit analysis to the wider organization that summarizes findings in a digestible, visual, and actionable manner. 
  • Build internal communication channels to update the organization about research findings. 
  • Work with marketing, sales, product, and operations teams to translate research findings into business strategies and initiatives.
  • Identify and establish partnerships with research institutions, community organizations, and other relevant entities to enhance research capabilities and opportunities. 
  • Publish relevant research to external audiences to drive thought leadership. 
  • Represent HRCI/HRSI at live events and conferences. 

The Skills You Need to Succeed:

  • 8 years of experience in user research, market analysis, or related roles.
  • Proficient using leading-edge qualitative and quantitative research techniques and tools. 
  • Proficient using survey software such as Qualtrics. 
  • Experience with competitor analysis tools, e.g. Similarweb. 
  • Experience with interview analysis tools, e.g. Dovetail. 
  • Experience with user needs research frameworks such as Jobs-to-be-Done.
  • Strong research methodology and analysis skills.
  • Proficient in research analysis tools and software.
  • Experience with survey design and analysis.
  • Highly collaborative and communicative, able to work across teams. 
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to translate data into actionable insights.
  • Ability to synthesize research data across multiple sources. 
  • Great at prioritizing work and helping business partners understand priorities. 
  • Exceptional interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
  • Knows how to work autonomously in a hands-on, detailed oriented, and fast-paced environment. 
  • Proactive in driving research initiatives.
  • Can quickly deliver value through research in a business environment.
