Job Description

Job Description

The Dental Assistant position provides support for a U.S Department of Labor Job Corps contractor. The Job Corps program is a federally-funded residential training program. The mission of Job Corps is to provide career-ready technical and academic training and job placement assistance to program eligible youth ages 16-24.

Summary of Duties:

The Dental Assistant is responsible for assisting the dentist in planning, implementing, and evaluating Oral Health and Wellness program consistent with student’s needs and Job Corps’ goals and objectives

Key Areas of Responsibilities:

  • Promotes the Wellness Program initiatives and functions.
  • Follows all integrity guidelines and procedures and ensures confidentiality and no manipulation of student information/data.
  • Ensures proper documentation and accountability of student’s medical records.
  • Schedules x-rays and exams within timeframe guidelines.
  • Ensures all dental exams are recorded accurately.
  • Documents missed appointments by incident reports; reschedules students for missed appointments.
  • Conducts inventory of supplies.
  • Assists dentist with dental exams and x-rays and monitors dental equipment. Performs dental x-rays.
  • Assists dentist with initial dental exams and restorative services.
  • Performs sterilization, monitoring and up-keep of dental equipment.
  • Ensures x-ray developer levels are correct. Prepares room for dental appointments.
  • Conducts daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance of dental equipment and lines.
  • Maintains a rotating cleaning schedule which includes the dental areas and all dental equipment.
  • Ensures documentation of equipment cleaning on a weekly basis.
  • Promotes and supports Center’s dental program by provides clear and precise instructions for post-dental procedures and care.
  • Provides preventative oral wellness teaching.
  • Performs other duties as requested by department manager/director.
  • Schedules and attends office meetings, sends out required reports, runs office errands, attends training, completes tasks in a timely and proficient manner, tracks and follows through on action items, exercises good judgment and problem-solving skills on manager’s behalf, and other comparable duties.
  • Enters information into the CIS and keeps necessary files and records.
  • Maintains accurate hard and electronic copy files as necessary to ensure department meets DOL, Corporate, and Center expectations. Runs CIS reports to ensure information entered is accurate.
  • Monitors budget, controls inventory, and ensures the department areas are attractive, clean, safe, and in good repair.
  • Completes PRs and check requests to include budget management.
  • Ensures that POs are received and filed initially and that the items requested are received in a timely manner.
  • Ensures that all equipment assigned to the department is properly accounted for and maintained in good condition.
  • Initiates work orders and ensure that repairs are completed in a timely manner.
  • Ensures that work area, including all dental areas and other assigned areas, are attractive, clean, and safe at all times.

Credentials:

Education and Experience

High School Diploma or equivalency with valid dental assistant certificate, and x-ray certificate and at least one year of relevant experience. Must possess computer proficiency and excellent communication skills,

Certifications, Licenses, Registration

Valid state driver’s license;

Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and government regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
