Works under the direct supervision of a pharmacist, while following approved departmental policies and procedures in the performance of all duties. Responsible for the proper operation of all equipment and the stocking of all supplies in assigned areas. Provides technical support for the pharmacist to ensure that patients receive comprehensive pharmaceutical care, appropriate to the age and severity of illness of the patient. In addition, will be responsible for the purchasing and inventory control of all drugs, with the exception of certain drugs used in Imaging and certain drugs ordered through Materials Management, within the hospital. Assists Director of Pharmacy with cost-containment activities to enhance both quality and value.
Education and formal training: Must have a high school diploma and be certified with the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board.
Work Experience: Must have at least 3 years of pharmacy experience.
Knowledge, skills and abilities required: Must be mature, self-directed and motivated; have effective communications skills; have a high degree of manual dexterity and some mechanical capabilities; must be a well-organized individual who can follow very detailed procedures on a routine basis; must be capable of accepting responsibility and maintaining a positive attitude; must be capable of accurately performing minor mathematical calculations.
