Hudsonville Public School District is Hiring a HEALTH AIDE (#512) Near Hudsonville, MI

Shift: Part-time / Hours may vary

Job Summary

Provides nursing care responsibility and accountability as described professionally by the American Nurses Association (ANA), the National Association of School Nurses (NASN), and legally by the State of Michigan. Demonstrates competency through a critical thinking model known as the nursing process. This includes assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Upholds the standards of professional performance as described by the ANA and NASN. This includes ethical practice, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence-based

practice and research, quality of practice, professional practice evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health. Strives to achieve optimal outcomes for students and families in the communities served.

Job Responsibilities

  • Provides evidence-based nursing care consistent with the interprofessional plan of care and in accordance with health system and school policies and procedures, and national organization (NASN/ANA). Communicates and collaborates with other members of the health care team and/or school district in order to ensure continuity and coordination of care. Performs point of care testing as required.
  • Demonstrates a high standard of moral, ethical, and culturally sensitive behavior. Formulates decisions and actions based on ethical principles using the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses to guide practice.
  • Advocates for privacy, confidentiality, and security of student, staff, and organizational data.
  • Documents nursing care, teaching, and training consistent with documentation guidelines and compiles accurate reports.
  • Dependent on the level of nursing certification and degree of health-related activities for the students assigned, identifies expected outcomes/goals and develops and implements/coordinates individualized interprofessional health care and emergency action plans that recommend strategies to achieve outcomes in accordance with ANA and NASN Standards of Practice. 
  • Ensures required documentation is performed in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Dependent on the level of nursing certification and degree of health-related activities for the students assigned, assumes an autonomous leadership role and delegates appropriately to the unlicensed health system and school staff to facilitate safe, quality patient care in a cost-effective manner.
  • Engages in activities related to the professional role and seeks to continually advance knowledge and competence related to school nursing practice while completing self and peer evaluation of nursing practice. Participates in ongoing improvement activities that contribute to quality student care.
  • Supervise students involved in classroom and non-classroom activities
  • Implement/follow teacher instructions on classroom activities and procedures.
  • Consistently reinforces the philosophy of classroom management. 
  • Work with individual and/or small groups of students in the academic setting under teacher direction.
  • Actively participates in safety initiatives and risk-mitigating measures where appropriate and completes all position competencies and requirements on a timely basis.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Current nursing certification with the State of Michigan
  • Basic Life Support trained, American Red Cross and/or American Heart Association
  • First Aid trained, American Heart Association
  • Ability to develop effective working relationships with students, staff and the school community.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. 
  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from the community, regulatory agencies, or staff members.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, and ledgers.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

The position requires sustained periods of sitting and working on computer and office equipment.

Position requires standing and walking throughout buildings.

The position involves frequent lifting up to 20 pounds and occasional lifting up to 40 pounds.

Position involves frequent repetitive action on a keyboard.
