Hartley House is a historic settlement house serving the Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood in New York City since 1897. Programs include after school and summer day camp programs for children, support services for neighborhood seniors, and creative arts programs for all ages.
Hartley House is seeking a passionate Bilingual Social Worker for the Home Outreach Program for Elders (HOPE) program. We are seeking an individual who is organized, caring and has a respect for diversity, including culture, ethnicity and sexual orientation. Under the supervision of the Social Worker, the social worker will provide case management assistance and must possess strong working knowledge of government entitlement and social services systems. This person will further advance the ability of HOPE to meet the needs of seniors by providing direct services such as handling intake management, bill pay assistance, in-home assessments, health and entitlement referrals, caregiver support, crisis intervention and client advocacy. S/he will work closely with 25-30 regular clients and provide further referrals to many more per year.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Masters in Social Worker (MSW) required. Ability to work effectively with well and frail older adults and other service agencies. Willingness to work a flexible schedule. Excellent organizational, computer and advocacy skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Two years of related work experience preferred. Must be able to speak, read and write in English; Spanish is preferred.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
WORKING CONDITIONS: Typical office setting that will require travel between office and client’s home, and possible multiple sites consistent with a community center environment.
