Description

POSITION SUMMARY:
Founded on the belief that adolescence is a dynamic and challenging time in life, Huckleberry Youth Programs’ mission is to educate, inspire, and support underserved youth to develop healthy life choices, to maximize their potential, and to realize their dreams.

The Huckleberry ACE (Access to College Equity) Academy is a college access program focusing on guiding, supporting and teaching first-generation students for post-secondary success. Youth join the program in their sophomore year of high school and continue in the program through their second year of college.
Under the supervision of the Director of Marin Programs, the ACE Academy Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the program, including staff supervision, program development, and coordination of program activities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Recruits, hires, trains, evaluates and supervises Academic Advisors (approximately 3-4 staff members), including planning and facilitating team meetings.

2. Works with the ACE Academy team to develop, review and revise student curriculum

3. Designing and implementing recruitment plan for new student cohort every year

4. Co-facilitates and/or helps supervise weekly after school groups (up to 2 -3 per week)

5. Works individually with ACE Academy youth participants on issues related to academic performance, graduation and college entrance requirements, and other academic and/or personal concerns; related duties may include tutoring and teaching organizational skills to students as needed.

6. Works with ACE Academy alumni on issues related to post-secondary goals.

7. Manages crisis situations with students, referring to other staff and outside agencies as needed.

8. Coordinates referrals and linkages for participants as needed.
9. Plans and coordinates parent support/parent outreach activities and other enrichment activities for program participants (e.g. Cookies n' Cram, College Visits).

10. Participates in program and agency meetings (e.g. Marin all-staff, Agency Management Meeting).

11. Works with community partners to bring in tutors to work with ACE students; coordinates tutor orientation and schedules.

12. In collaboration with the Director of Marin Programs, represents ACE in the community and at college access collaborations, and develops and maintains networks with providers of other youth services.

13. In collaboration with the Director of Marin Programs, supports the program development of ACE Academy by participating in funding and strategic planning.

14. In coordination with the Director of Marin Programs plans, coordinates, and reviews evaluation components of the program.

15. In coordination with the Research and Evaluation Director, manages Salesforce client data and team flows for data collection.

16. Support the development team in the pursuit of funding to support the program and HYP.

17. Other duties as assigned, including general office function/organizational support.

Qualifications


1. Bachelor's degree (Education, Public Health, Health Education or similar major preferred).
2. Bilingual English/Spanish required.
3. Minimum two years supervisory experience preferably in a non-profit environment
4. Minimum 3 years experience working with and relating to youth, youth of color, and their families and communities. Cultural sensitivity and competency required.
5. Minimum 2 years experience working in direct service with youth and families and experience training and facilitating group discussions related to one or more of the following topics; academic achievement, college readiness, career exploration, job readiness and health and/or social justice (preferably with high school aged youth).
6. Previous experience advocating academic success for underserved youth strongly preferred.
7. Demonstrated ability to be creative, innovative, and motivated (and encouraging others to do the same).

ADDITIONAL ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS:

1. TB clearance
2. Valid CA driver’s license & clear DMV record
3. 2 years driving experience

SECURITY CLEARANCE: Must pass DOJ/FBI background check. Due to our requirements with licensing, candidates with backgrounds including items on this non-exemptible crimes list will not be eligible for exemption at this time.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: This position operates out of the Huckleberry Youth Programs offices in Marin. This role routinely includes driving and transporting youth. The position also includes the use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Huckleberry Youth Programs in Marin is located in San Rafael and is accessible by public transportation.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: This role requires the ability to talk, hear and sit, to occasionally drive a vehicle, to be able to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds unassisted.
