POSITION SUMMARY:As a Foreman, you are responsible to support the mission of the Forestry Department and support supervisor’s during daily operations. Responsibility includes; directing a squad of 5-7 individuals, squad member development, and building the program through the National Wildland Coordinating Group and higher education. Your primary mission is to meet the obligations of the annual forestry projects that includes emergency operations within the Hualapai reservation. Emergency support off the reservation will be secondary and determined by the completion of the annual project target (ex. 70% of 805 acres thinning by mid-May). The position is located in Peach Springs, AZ. This position includes, training, travel within or off the reservation, and an opportunity for advancement.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:Leadership• Provides daily guidance to crew members• Educates crew members on purpose of tasks assigned (ex. purpose of fuel break)• Identifies crew members interest and encourages development• Provides correct policy to crew members resulting in correct understanding of program policy and employee’s rightsOperations• Understands and supports management’s expectations of a safe work environment• Selects appropriate Personal Protective Equipment and ensures employee’s wear daily• Aids in developing management plans such as Hazardous Fuel’s Reduction Planand Prescribed Burn Plans for both short/long range goals• Experience trouble shooting equipment such as chainsaws and timely field repair• Trains crew members on equipment use such as chippers, chainsaws, suppression equipment, etc.Logistics• Monitor’s crew needs (equipment, transportation, etc.) and addresses with management• Provides insight to purchase appropriate crew gear• Assures all reporting is addressed timely (vehicle inspections, fuel tickets, etc.)Other• Monitoring for Timber and/or Hazardous Fuels Reduction programs• Assigned duties to meet the mission of the Forestry programSUPERVISORY CONTROL• You will work under the general supervision of a program Crew Supervisor• You will directly supervise assigned crew members

GUIDELINESHualapai Tribal Constitution, Forest Products Harvesting Products 61 D, 53/57/90 Indian Affairs Manual, Interagency Standards for Fire and Aviation Operations, Various Cooperative Agreements, Federal and State Statutes, internal Standard Operational Procedures, and Forest Management directionIndependent judgement is required in following procedures. Selects appropriate field guidelines, adapts procedures to meet field conditions and identifies unusual conditions. Deviations from procedures need review by supervisor prior to taking action

PHYSICAL DEMAND• Crew member must be physically and mentally capable of willing to endure extended periods of work under a variety of environmental conditions.• Approximately 90 percent of this work is performed in the field.• Incumbent must be in good physical condition and be able to ascend and descend steep topography and traverse hillsides in rough forest terrain carrying a chainsaw, fuel, supply pack, and paint canisters.• Heavy work such as lifting and digging can occur in emergencies.• Wildfire control assignments may involve extremely hazardous activity for extended periods of time.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS• High School Diploma or equivalent• Must have a valid Driver’s license and be eligible for the tribe’s insurance• Any combination of education and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties and responsibilities of the job;• Demonstrates general knowledge/understanding and ability to read and interpret maps, imagery, graphics, maps coordinates and geo-referencing;• Demonstrates general knowledge/understanding and ability to operate a compass, GPS, and tablets/Ipads to collect field inventory• Current or will complete 1st Aid, CPR, and Bloodborne PathogensEDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED;• Must have excellent verbal and written communications skills;• Must be a team player to integrate with other programs within the department;• Must be willing to attend and receive training related to the position;• Maintain confidentiality.• Must pass a background check as a condition for continued employment;• Must submit to and pass a pre-employment and random drug/alcohol screening.
