The Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) manager will provide leadership in determining the company’s overall VDC-related strategy along with developing action plans to implement specific VDC-related initiatives. They will work closely with both internal and external groups. External groups will include third-party Mechanical/Electrical/Plumbing (MEP) engineers, Architects, Construction Managers, trade contractors, and Owners and their representatives. Internal groups will include design engineering, manufacturing production, sales, finance, and field operations. This is an office and travel-based position. Job Duties and Responsibilities The VDC Manager is responsible for researching and standardizing VDC/BIM workflows across our design, manufacturing, and construction practice as well as organizing and communicating BIM technical information throughout the enterpriseMust understand the practice of architecture, engineering and construction in order to support those professionals with the ability to standardize, support and present technology solutions. This includes sales/client-facing presentations and meetings.Maintain and develop standardized processes, document best practices, and provide for VDC knowledge sharing within the VDC department and throughout the enterprise.Establish Standards of Practice and Integrated workflows with a focus on interdisciplinary collaboration, particularly as it relates to Design Assist and Integrated Project Delivery.Manage, lead, and develop IPS VDC staff including: VDC Modelers and VDC Coordinators across the program. Includes performance reviews, management of Individual Development Plan, department meetings, and all the other critical elements that build a team. Identify appropriate resource needs, assign individual responsibilities, and develop department schedules to ensure successful implementation of VDC on projects.Work with Project Managers and Design Leaders to establish the VDC process for inclusion in Project Execution Plans.Develop collaborative project workflows and processes with project partners and VDC staff.Update, develop, and implement VDC training programs for Designers, Engineers, Project Mangers, Cost Estimators, Schedulers and Field staff.Challenge current BIM/VDC practices, guiding the resulting technology transformation.Liaison with IT and project staff to ensure functional and efficient hardware and software setups for plant-based staff, remote staff, at colocation facilities, and on jobsites.Provide VDC implementation oversight on projects; develop BIM Execution Plans; and calculate technology ROI and other metrics to IPS Business/ Ops Leadership.Assist the Field Operations team to optimize the company’s approach to Design AssistAssist the engineering and manufacturing production teams in implementing VDC tools/processes to optimize production-related Quality Control and Quality AssuranceCollaborate with project teams to develop a specific project technology approach.Utilize Virtual Reality technology, Drones, and any new technology that will help or be required on a project.Use CAD/BIM software to aid in VDC tasks such as; AutoCAD, Revit, SolidWorks, and any other required 2D and 3D software.Collaborate between subcontractors, contractors, clients, and designers by coordinating regular meetings to discuss changes and various design aspects of the job.Willingness to travel 20-40% of the time to various job and/or plant locations. Qualifications & Requirements BS required in Engineering, Architecture, or related field.7-10 years of experience in computer assisted drafting, design, and VDC/BIM required.Strong working knowledge of Navisworks Manage, Revit, BIMDex and AutoCAD is required. Working knowledge of SolidWorks is desired.Willingness to learn new software, and optimize the conversions of project models and data between different software platformsExperience with, and passionate about, design technology; skilled in its application and practices to increase user effectivenessExtensive capabilities with MS Office, including Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPointKnowledge of Design-Bid-Build, Design/Build, Design Assist, Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) and other modern contractual delivery methodsProven successful implementations of BIM platform technologiesUnderstanding of the construction industry along with likely future trends as it relates to VDCStrong working knowledge of MEP systems and installationsUnderstanding of project workflows from design, estimation, construction administration and coordination, and fabricationAbility to work with limited supervisionMust have field experience in design and constructionMust have strong organizations skill (juggling multiple jobs and files from multiple vendors) to be able to meet project deadlines.Customer service experience exhibiting strong oral and written communication skills, and the ability to work well with individuals (co-workers, clients, partners, vendors) at all levels.Able to deal with and resolve conflicts between contractors, clients, and the design team.
