Position Description:
Company: Developmental Disabilities Service Organization (DDSO)
We have a job opening for a Part-time Sales Associate at Capitol Books & Gifts, the museum store in the California State Capitol Museum located at 1303 10th Street. This is a fun museum environment assisting school tour groups, legislators and their staff, and family tourists with purchases of gifts and souvenirs. Training is provided and ongoing.
The gift shop is open Monday through Friday, 9:30am 4:30pm and is operated by DDSO Community Services, formally called Developmental Disabilities Service Organization (DDSO), a non-profit day program for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, including three art programs. Proceeds from sales go to services for people with disabilities.
Hours/Schedule: Part-time 9:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.
Duties and Responsibilities: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Opens and closes the store.
Greets visitors and answers the phone.
Provides excellent customer service.
Cashiering and bagging.
Restocks and cleans shelves and merchandise displays.
Manages displays and upsells merchandise.
Fulfills & ships online orders and phone orders.
Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED with some college coursework.
1 year of retail or customer service experience.
Computer literate.
Ability to work with children and adults from a wide variety of ethnic and economic backgrounds.
Ability to stay positive and resolve issues with good judgment.
Desire to give back to the community and support DDSOs nonprofit mission.
Experience with cultural organizations and volunteering at nonprofit organizations is highly desired.
Must be able to work independently and on a team.
Ability to lift 40lbs, use a stepladder, bend and stoop.
Must be able to obtain a criminal record clearance and be at least 18 years old.
Compensation: $16.50 per hour to start. Benefits include 20% store discount, parking reimbursement, holidays, and vacation.
