Summary

The Application Administrator I will initially be responsible for the day-to-day support of HR Green’s core engineering application environment, with an initial focus on third-party desktop applications that fall outside of the AutoDesk, Bentley and ESRI software platforms. There are over 300 desktop applications that need to be managed on 500 virtual and physical workstations. This position will grow into a broader IT application administration role, which includes supporting the AutoDesk, Bentley and ESRI software platforms; architecting and supporting proprietary web sites/applications; and maintaining the application automation deployment platform. This position is responsible for ensuring the HR Green application environment is fully functional and available from an operational and technical perspective. This position will be responsible for troubleshooting and resolving application errors and performance issues; setting up and maintaining application configurations; and upgrading/patching applications.

HR Green leverages internal IT infrastructure support staff to monitor and support HR Green’s data center and office IT infrastructure (network, server, storage, workstations). This position will work closely with those IT infrastructure personnel, along with third party software vendors, to address application issues that are functional, operational or technical in nature. This position will be responsible for implementing web and application monitoring, and for reviewing application log files to capture application/system issues. There will be formal on-call responsibilities that will cover immediate support for both application and infrastructure, and there will be after-hours work for IT infrastructure and application changes. This is a production IT operations and IT engineering position, with a requirement that this position creates and tests application changes prior to implementing the changes into production.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Standardizing, Configuring, and Operationalizing Desktop Applications:
    • Performs basic software configurations for use by the entire company.
    • Assists with software configurations for specific groups within the company.
    • Assists with configuration of company hardware/software assets (mobile GPS units, servers, license managers, etc.).
    • Supports and maintains company hardware/software assets (mobile GPS units, servers, license managers, etc.).
    • Assists with coordination and execution of the installation of new patches/updates.
    • Tests configuration changes made on company or client assets.
    • Assist with troubleshooting company-wide system and specific application issues.
    • May help with researching industry trends in standards, automation, and new technologies. Thinks strategically about efficient solutions for HR Green and our clients.
  • Software License Management for all software:
    • Coordinates with company users to determine adequate types and numbers of available software to support projects and other company initiatives.
    • Helps gather business line data for IT Director to prepare annual budgets for required hardware/software maintenance, along with any new required hardware/software.
    • Assists with coordination and execution of software and system access requirements with other firms when working joint-ventures or other types of complex projects.
    • Coordinates hardware/software requirements, installation, and setup for new employees working with the software during the hiring and on-boarding process.
  • First being trained on and learning about the following, then eventually taking on support responsibilities in the AutoDesk, Bentley, and ESRI software platforms
  • Works with a variety of software and supports teams to troubleshoot production issues .
  • After hours IT infrastructure and application change implementations and/or testing.
  • Manage the imaging, distributing and inventory tracking of workstations, monitors and other office- specific IT equipment
  • Provide hands-on support, IT training and troubleshooting for employees within your home office, as requested by the IT Service Desk
  • Provide Service Desk over-flow phone/queue support on the relatively rare occasions in which it is needed

Education and/or Experience

  • Associate’s degree (A.A) from a two year college or technical school, or the equivalent combination of education and experience is required. A Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline is preferred, but not required
  • At least 2 years of experience in a technical support role.
  • Experience in supporting a Windows 10 virtual workstation environment.
  • Experience in creating technical and operational documentation required, regardless of the field in which the documentation was created.
  • Experience with the ITIL Incident/Problem/Change/Configuration Management framework preferred.
  • Interest in expanding into the realm of supporting engineering-based software.
  • Interest in learning about and getting exposed to IT infrastructure engineering and operations, including network, server, storage, workstation and application support.
  • Willing to work independently as the last line of defense for application issues within the company, and willing to escalate issues to the software vendor
  • Excellent communication and people skills required.
  • Good listening and problem solving skills required.
  • Ability to handle and prioritize multiple projects required.
  • The ability to handle objections and counter those objections professionally required.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule to include afterhours work required.
  • Aptitude in learning new technologies and IT concepts required.
