JOB TITLE: Fabrication Foreman
FLSA STATUS: Hourly/Non-Exempt
WORK SCHEDULE: Full Time; Monday-Friday (with occasional weekend availability)
JOB LOCATION: Western Kentucky

Position SummaryThe Fabrication Foreman will lead, motivate, and monitor activities of shop employees to ensure they have the tools and resources to perform their job at the highest possible ability. The incumbent will be engaged in project estimating, scheduling, fabricating, welding, and quality control measures to ensure the highest level of safety and customer satisfaction is achieved.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Perform job bidding and project estimating tasks, managing all elements with regard to creating customer quotes, preparing cost estimates, guesstimating the cost of labor, equipment, materials, and staffing needed for each project.
  • Manage shop supplies, ensure adequate inventory, plan budgets, prioritize purchases, and coordinate purchases
  • Communicate with vendors and suppliers to ensure they have the materials needed for their portion of the project once a job is awarded
  • Coordinate and monitor, from start to finish, the fabrication progress and resources necessary to meet the production schedule for successful completion of assigned jobs
  • Develop and monitor shop crew schedule and progress to make educated changes for increased production
  • Read work orders, blueprints, engineering drawings, and specification sheets
  • Perform math functions in standard and metric such as reading a tape measure, taking measurements, marking materials, and adding and subtracting simple fractions and metric measurements
  • Conduct frequent quality assurance inspections of the work (practices/methods) to check for any deviations from established quality standards
  • Maintain adequate communication with clients during each phase of the project to ensure they are aware of and satisfied with the progress
  • Address complaints and resolve customer problems in a professional and timely manner
  • Operate a cutting torch, weld materials, fit parts for welding, and oversee the crew’s capabilities of performing these same tasks
  • Perform overhead, vertical, and flat welding
  • Weld watertight welds in all areas and weld maximum amount of footage for the type, conditions, and location of welds.
  • Multitask and frequently handle various construction and repair assignments with full accuracy and efficiency
  • Use power and hand tools in accordance with company, state, and federal safety regulations
  • Operate various material handling equipment, including but not limited to, overhead cranes and industrial fork lifts
  • Investigate all incidents which occur in the department and complete appropriate reports and/or documentation
  • Ensure the proper maintenance of equipment, reporting and coordinating repairs and inspections as necessary
  • Provide new-employee orientations and inform, train, and promote safe work methods and environment
  • Participate in any necessary training or certification programs to keep up with changes in technology within the industry
  • Perform other related duties as required or requested by Management.
Supervisor Responsibilities
  • Oversee and manage the welding and fabrication crew members, including monitoring time and attendance, scheduling workloads, and determining the appropriate amount of overtime based on the needs of the company
  • Collaborate with upper management to participate in interviewing and hiring team members
  • Lead and train employees
  • Plan, assign, and direct work.
  • Evaluate performance of team members, providing coaching sessions and implementing disciplinary actions as appropriate
  • Quality Control and Quality Assurance of projects
Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
  • 8 years of prior welding experience
  • 5 years of leadership and management experience working in a fabrication shop
  • Comprehensive knowledge of machine shop standards/practices and equipment, including but not limited to hydraulic press brakes, punch press, shearing machines, iron workers, plate rolls, profile/angle rolls, band saws, plasma cutting systems, welding, and painting
  • Hands-on experience with TIG, MIG and stick welding processes
  • Understands codes of standards for AISC, AWS, and CWB
  • Demonstrated knowledge of CNC programming
  • Ability to interpret blueprints, work from technical drawings, and read instruments gauges
  • Capable of writing routine reports and correspondence
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization
  • Strong problem-solving, critical-thinking, active listening, and time-management skills
  • Capable of interpreting a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
  • Ability to perform basic math skills in both standard and metric systems: add, subtract, multiply, simple fractions. Able to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations
  • Computer skills, including the ability to use CAD software and MS Excel
  • Possess superior interpersonal, organizational, oral, and written communications skills
  • Ability to operate a commercial vehicle and/or pull a trailer
Required Education, Licenses, Certifications, And Other Miscellaneous Items
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Trade School or technical degree specific to metal fabrication is preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field is strongly desired
  • Current and valid industry certification for AWS (American Welding Society)
  • Completion of OSHA Competent Person training
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to/from the shop
  • Available to work on Saturday and/or Sunday if project deadlines require weekend work, which is a rarity
  • Able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and a thorough criminal background check
Physical RequirementsThe physical demands described herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential duties of this job.
  • Frequent walking, standing, climbing, bending, twisting, pushing, and pulling
  • Able to stand for an extended period of time and manipulate/lift large metal parts
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 100 pounds
  • Must be able to work in various temperatures and extreme weather conditions
  • Able to work in a loud, noise-filled environments
