HOYA VISION CARE, North AmericaJob Description Job Title: Tax Director Department: Accounting Reports To: Controller Location: HQPrepared Date: April 2024 Status: Exempt SUMMARYThe Tax Director is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing the company's tax strategy, compliance, and reporting functions across multiple jurisdictions. Working in tandem with external tax services that manage filings, this position will provide expert guidance and direction to ensure organizational adherence to applicable tax laws and regulations while identifying opportunities to optimize the company's tax position. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Tax Compliance & Reporting: Direct the preparation and filing of federal, state, and local tax returns, including income tax, sales and use tax, property tax, and other tax obligations, in collaboration with external tax advisors as neededEnsure accurate and timely remittance of tax payments and extensionsManage tax audits, notices, and inquiries from tax authorities, working closely with external advisors to address any issues or discrepanciesOversee the collection, review, and maintenance of tax related data and documentation for compliance purposes. Tax Planning & Advisory: Analyze the company’s operations, transactions, and business strategies to identify tax implications and potential tax-saving opportunitiesProvide guidance on tax-efficient structuring of transactions, investments and business operationsCollaborate with cross-functional teams to evaluate the tax impact of proposed initiatives, acquisitions, divestitures, or restructuring activitiesStay abreast of changes in tax laws and regulations, assessing their impact on the company and recommending appropriate strategiesProvide tax guidance and knowledge to Accounting staff in order to set them up to be the best supporters / providers of data to be translated from book to tax Team Leadership & Administration:Manage and develop a high-performing tax team, providing guidance, training and mentorship to team membersEstablish and maintain effective processes, controls and procedures for tax-related activitiesOversee the preparation and submission of various tax-related reports, filings, and registrations as required by regulatory bodiesCoordinate with external tax advisors, auditors, and legal counsel as necessary to ensure compliance and align on tax strategies Competencies To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies: Technical Skills - Assesses own strengths and weaknesses; Pursues training and development opportunities; Strives to continuously build knowledge and skills; Shares expertise with others. QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or other relevant professional certification preferredMinimum of 8 – 10 years of progressive experience in corporate tax, with a strong background in tax compliance, planning, and advisory servicesComprehensive knowledge of federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations, as well as industry-specific tax implicationsExcellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills with a keen attention to detailStrong leadership, communication, and interpersonal abilities to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and external stakeholdersProficiency in tax software and applications
