Howell Public Schools is Hiring an Elementary Summer Program Secretary Near Howell, MI

Job Title: Elementary Summer Program Secretary - 23g (2024)
Reports To: Asst. Supt. of Instructional Services
Location: District-wide
FLSA Status: Exempt
Time Commitment: 4 days per week for four weeks
Pay Rate: $875 stipend per week
Union Affiliation: HESPA
SummaryThe goals of the Elementary Summer Program are:
  • Improve academic skills, particularly literacy and math skills
  • Provide access to community-based educational opportunities
  • Build Portrait of a Highlander competencies
  • Assist students’ growth to prepare for the upcoming school year
Camp Highlander will run Monday through Thursday from 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM on the following dates: June 3rd - June 28th. For current secretaries or clerks, coverage or release must be arranged with your Principal for conflicting dates.
The Elementary Summer Program Secretary will work with the Elementary Summer Coordinator(s) to implement targeted elementary summer programs. This position is funded by the State of Michigan 23g MI Kids Back on Track grant for the summer of 2024 only.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Communication with students, staff, and families regarding the summer program
  • Support students in grades BK-2 (rising grades K-3) for building office needs, including administering medications or addressing illnesses, facilitating late arrival / early pickup, organizing materials, etc.
  • Support staff in the summer program for building office needs, including communication, arranging for subs, organizing materials, etc.
  • Assist with the organization of the summer program activities including activities, field trips, meals, transportation, etc.
  • Perform building office data collection and reporting tasks as needed
  • Adhere to all applicable state and federal laws and regulations, Board policies, and District guidelines
  • Conduct self to demonstrate collegiality and professionalism
  • Maintain regular, predictable attendance.
  • Other duties specifically related to the summer programs as assigned.
Qualification RequirementsTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education And Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Successful completion of the HPS secretarial exam - PRIOR TO APPLICATION
  • Prefer prior clerical experience within a public school setting.
Language Skills
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from administrators, students, staff and the general public consistent with the duties of this position.
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions and correspondence.
  • Must have phone skills and communicate with people over the phone.
Mathematical Skills
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure consistent with the duties of this position.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations consistent with the duties of this position.
Reasoning Ability
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists consistent with the duties of this position.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form consistent with the duties of this position.

The work environment is normally indoors with controlled climate conditions. Occasionally the employee may be required to be outdoors for a short period of time, and therefore subject to varying weather conditions, for purposes of accomplishing the essential functions of this job.
TERMSStipend is $875 per week. The working calendar covers all session dates listed.
