TEACHER JOB DESCRIPTION

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Education Responsibilities

  • Plans and implements a program of instruction that adheres to the company’s philosophy, goals and objectives as outlined in the adopted courses of study. Howard

Scholars Academy ensure all students receive adequate instructional strategies and support to maintain a 3.0 GPA or above.

  • Makes purposeful and appropriate lesson plans to approach individual Personalized

Learning Plans (PLPs) which provide for effective teaching strategies and maximizes student outcomes.

  • Presents subject matter to students to maximize learning opportunity and provides real-world, application based examples and learning opportunities.
  • Reviews student records in order to develop a foundation of understanding regarding each student’s abilities and needs. Maintain accurate and complete student academic and attendance records within the Student Information System (SIS) for proper stakeholder collaboration.
  • Strives to maximize the educational achievement of each student. Students will submit weekly Cornell Notes and updated Instructional Plans to assigned teachers.
  • Utilizes a variety of student learning modalities and differentiated instruction aligned to designated courses within the Learning Management System (LMS).
  • Analyze and utilizes diagnostic, formative, and summative assessments on a frequent basis to inform adjust of instruction to meet student needs.

  • Maintains accurate gradebook records weekly.
  • Assess student strengths and weaknesses on a frequent basis, provides appropriate activities to address student needs and generates progress reports as required.
  • Refers students with suspected or continual learning problems to appropriate support personnel such as the School Principal and Dean of Students.
  • Assigns lessons, corrects student work product and reviews additional presentation/research assignments via the designated Learning Management System

(LMS).

  • Keeps current in subject matter knowledge and learning theory and is willing to share this knowledge for the continual improvement of the school's curriculum.

Online and Onsite Classroom Environment Responsibilities

  • Creates an online and onsite classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.
  • Maintains positive rapport with students; demonstrates patience and appropriate nurturing to assist in the growth of the child in alignment with research based practices of Social Emotional Learning (SEL) strategies and techniques.
  • Ensure all students receive proper training on accessing their designated courses, assignments, and assessments via their designated Learning Management System

(LMS).

  • Implements all relevant policies governing student conduct. Report any concerns via the Student Information System (SIS) under the Discipline section. The School

Principal or Dean of Students will respond within 24 hours.

  • Develops reasonable rules of classroom protocols and behavior in accordance with the Howard Scholars Academy policy and guidelines, and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and consistent manner, prevent plagiarism, and ensure all students are functioning at their full capacity to obtain academic goals.

Instructional Planning Responsibilities

  • Develops lesson plans consistent with established Personalized Learning Plans

(PLPs) and goals.

  • Plans individual and small group learning activities designed to meet instructional objective and student’s needs.
  • Prepares for classes assigned and shows evidence of preparation via the SIS Lesson

Planning Section.

  • Participates with other staff members in curriculum planning during designated meetings.
  • Incorporates into planning all diagnostic information as required in the student’s

Individual Education Plan (IEP), 504 Plan, or Personalized Learning Plan (PLP).

  • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect supplies, equipment, materials and facilities needed to implement effectively the planned instructional program.

School Community Relations

  • Strives to establish cooperative relations and makes reasonable effort to communicate with parents/guardians when appropriate.
  • Communicates clearly, consistently and positively with parents via all appropriate mediums.
  • Cooperates with members of the administration, and other staff with Howard Scholars

Academy regarding any needs to ensure the success of all students.

  • Maintains onfidentiality regarding student records.
  • Participates in parent communication activities such as Conference Weeks, Progress Monitoring Updates, etc.
  • Participates in extracurricular activities to ensure a positive school culture and provide support for students and staff (as required).

6. Has the ability to be at work consistently, to be on time, to follow instructions, to respond to management direction and to solicit feedback to improve performance.

7. Demonstrates proficient experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint),
Student Information System (SIS), Learning Management Systems (LMS), Project
Management Systems (PMS), and email communications.

8. Looks for ways to improve and promote quality and demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness.

9. Has the ability to provide a supportive role to the school administration/designees.

FLSA OVERTIME CATEGORY

Job is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.

EVALUATION

Performance will be evaluated in accordance with Howard Scholars Academy Policy.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree (BA) from an accredited college or university or equivalent.
  • Possession of valid teaching certification (PREFERRED).
  • Minimum of one (1) to three (3) years successful teaching experience.
  • Command of grades/subject specific content and theoretical knowledge of learning theory, including motivation, reinforcement, evaluation and feedback techniques.
  • Technology proficient in the use of Blended Learning Concepts, LMS, SIS, Instructonal technology, and other technological systems.
  • Understanding of and commitment to company values.
  • Successful results of criminal and employment background check.
  • Effective instructional delivery techniques and excellent communication skills.
  • Adherence to the requirements of the Code of Ethics for the Education

Profession.

  • Such alternatives to the above requirements as Howard Scholars Academy may find appropriate and acceptable.
  • Additional duties and responsibilities assigned by School Adinistration.
