Howard Hughes Medical Institute is Hiring a Research Technician, Cell Dynamics Near New York, NY

Primary Work Address: 1275 York Avenue, New York, NY, 10021
The Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) advances the discovery and sharing of scientific knowledge to benefit us all. As a biomedical research organization and philanthropy, HHMI supports a vibrant community of academic researchers, educators, students, and professionals. Together, we’re unlocking the fundamentals of biology and building an open, inclusive future for science.
We are actively seeking a Research Technician to join the lab of Dr. Jennifer Zallen at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City, NY. This individual will work as part of a dedicated and multidisciplinary team of scientists working to understand how cells navigate through the body during development and how defects in these processes can lead to birth defects and cancer. We use cell biological, genetic, biophysical, computational, and live-imaging approaches to visualize cell and protein dynamics in living embryos. The long-term goal of this research is to leverage this information to build, repair, and regenerate tissues to treat human disease. More information can be found at the following website:

You will have an opportunity to participate in cutting-edge research and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of scientists and you will receive ample guidance and mentorship to ensure your success in this role. We are looking for researchers who are able to commit to joining the lab for at least two years.

  • Opportunities to work closely with an interactive multidisciplinary team of scientists and contribute to research publications
  • Career mentorship to foster professional growth and support in achieving your career goals
What you’ll do:
  • Use molecular biology, biochemistry, and cell biology techniques to study protein localization, dynamics, and function
  • Learn innovative microscopy methods to analyze cell dynamics in fly or mouse embryos using confocal microscopy and time-lapse imaging
  • Assist with the design and engineering of fly or mouse lines using CRISPR/Cas9 methods
  • Assist with the maintenance of collections of fly or mouse lines
  • Collaborate with senior scientists, postdoctoral researchers, and graduate students in an intellectually stimulating and interactive environment
What you bring:
  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, biochemistry, physics, chemistry, engineering, or a related field
  • Self-motivated, interactive, and meticulous approach to tasks and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team
