Houston Methodist Hospital is Hiring an Evening Near Fresno, CA

At Houston Methodist the EEG Technicianposition is an entrylevel to midlevel job that performs routineambulatory and longterm monitoring (LTM) electroencephalograms(EEG) and / or visual brainstem and somatosensory evoked potential(EP) procedures according to hospital and departmental policy andprocedures.

Until competent to perform the job duties of an EEGTechnician this position works under the direct technicalsupervision of a higherlevel EEG Technologist physician or otherappropriate clinician.

Once competence has been demonstrated thisposition performs EEG Technician job responsibilities independentlywith technical aspects of procedures performed falling underindirect technical supervision of appropriate higherlevel.

PEOPLE ESSENTIALFUNCTIONS

Promotes apositive work environment and contributes to a dynamic team focusedwork unit that actively helps one another to achieve optimaldepartment results.

Collaborates with other health careprofessionals as needed for problem resolution and / or achievementof identified patient specificgoals.

SERVICE ESSENTIALFUNCTIONS

  • Communicatesappropriately and effectively with the patient and staff to conveythe purpose of the procedures and answers questions regarding theprocedures.
  • Performspatient assessment as related to care such as electrode fixationproduct allergies movement restrictions and cognitive function;

knows and recognizes drug and physiological status effects onactivity monitored.

Stockssupplies and prepares patient rooms and equipment for upcomingprocedures performs any other related duties that are consistentwith patient and technical care for thislevel.

QUALITY / SAFETYESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Ensurescorrect electrode application in adherence with the International1020 System; recognizes correct EEG and / or EP performance andclinically significant events and follows policy and procedures andgovernmental regulations regarding critical test results;

maintainsthe patients safety through communication to other patient caresupport staff during these procedures asneeded.

Maintains correctelectrode connections; identifies and performs basic andintermediate technical troubleshooting and artifact identificationand elimination;

follows concepts of digital equipment andelectrical safety with regards to the equipment; recognizes whenalternate montages protocols and / or equipment settings might benecessary and their effects on the test data and takes appropriateactions notifying others asneeded.

  • Performs EEGstudies including bedside studies clinical EP studies andmonitoring of epilepsypatients.
  • Reports nearmisses and inputs errors promptly into documentation system toimprove processes and identify trends. Ensures all equipmentutilized has had QC performed as required and is in safe workingorder prior to use.

Reports any malfunctions to management andregularly practices preventive maintenance procedures; calls forservice ifneeded.

Contributes toidentification of corrective actions and improvement activities andto meeting departmental and hospital targets for quality andsafety.

FINANCE ESSENTIALFUNCTIONS

  • Provides accurateand complete documentation of patient procedures. Enters charges atthe time service is delivered. Submits all reports billing andother paperwork within a timelymanner.
  • Uses resourcesefficiently; does not waste supplies and reports low supplyinventories. Recommends solutions in achieving departmentalobjectives.
  • Selfmotivatedto independently manage time effectively and prioritize dailytasks.

GROWTH / INNOVATIONESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Participates indepartmental projects and activities. Seeks opportunities to expandlearning beyond baseline competencies with a focus on continualdevelopment as an EEGTechnologist.

EDUCATION

  • HighSchool Diploma or equivalent education (examples include : GEDverification of homeschool equivalency partial or full completionof postsecondary educationetc.)
  • Completion of anAccredited Electroneurodiagnostic END program or an Associatesdegree or higher in a science related field from an accreditedcollege or universitypreferred

WORKEXPERIENCE

Six monthsexperience in the performance of END procedures in a patient careenvironment or successful completion of all clinicals required byand through an approved Electroneurodiagnostic ENDprogram

LICENSES ANDCERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED

  • BLSBasic Life Support (AHA)
  • BLS Basic Life Support(AHA)

KNOWLEDGESKILLS ANDABILITIES

  • Demonstrates theskills and competencies necessary to safely perform the assignedjob determined through ongoing evaluations consisting of one ormore of the following : skills competency assessments and / orperformancereviews
  • Possesses basiccomputer knowledge to operate the necessary computer systems andsoftware to include data entry document printing document scanningand a basic understanding of Microsoft Windows Microsoft Office andAdobe Acrobat
  • Exhibitsstrong interpersonal and team player skills with all levels of thehealthcare team and assures delivery of excellent customer serviceto all patients visitors physicians andcoworkers
  • Knowledgeable ofalternate montages protocols and alternate equipment settings andtheir effects on the testdata
  • Knowledgeable ofcorrect EEG and / or EP performance and clinically significantevents
  • Understands why andhow to maintain correct electrodeconnections
  • Able toperform EEG / END procedures under indirect supervision once trainingprogramcomplete
  • Sufficientproficiency in speaking reading and writing the English languagenecessary to perform the essential functions of this job especiallywith regard to activities impacting patient or employee safety orsecurity
  • Ability toeffectively communicate with patients physicians family members andcoworkers in a manner consistent with a customer service focus andapplication of positive languageprinciples
