The Phlebotomist performs various technical and clerical procedures within the clinical laboratory. Ensures continuity of work flow between patient and laboratory. Responsible for processing all patients who come to the laboratory for clinical tests. Ensures that patient samples are adequate in amount and that integrity of the sample is maintained. Prepares specimens for referral to reference laboratories and various departments of the laboratory. These procedures exclude any which are performed only by licensed personnel under state licensure regulations.
High School graduate or GED equivalent. Current AHA-BLS certification. Completion of a basic venipuncture course. Utilizes a variety of venipuncture and capillary equipment and supplies. Utilizes centrifuge for separation of serum and/or plasma from cells. Knowledge of medical terminology appropriate for scope of duties. Computer skills and knowledge; good communication skills; ability to perform arithmetic operations quickly and accurately. Utilizes office equipment such as fax machine, copier, telephone, file cabinets, computers, printers, etc.
Successful candidates will be subject to criminal background and drug screens.
