JOB SUMMARY
The Academics Communication Lead will partner with Academics senior leadership on communications strategy with internal (principals and teachers) and external (School Board and media) HISD stakeholders.
MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Coordinate and write accurate responses to media and board inquiries related to the Academics department.
  • Lead Academics communications with principals and divisions on critical Academics updates.
  • Create and execute Academics communication strategy to ensure that critical stakeholders receive and comprehend all necessary information.
  • Build strategy to effectively communicate Academics updates to teachers.
  • Improve communications and information flow within the Academics organization.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned

EDUCATION
Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (depending on the specific requirements of the cross-functional team)
WORK EXPERIENCE
3 Years Experience working in cross-functional teams or projects.
SKILL AND/OR REQUIRED LICENSING/CERTIFICATION
Strong teamwork and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse functional backgrounds. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, enabling clear and concise information sharing. Strong problem-solving abilities, with a logical and analytical mindset to address complex challenges. Adaptability and flexibility to thrive in a fast-paced and changing work environment. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver results within deadlines. Proficiency in relevant software and tools used by the cross-functional team. Continuous learning mindset, with a willingness to expand knowledge and skills in other functional areas. Experience leading communication strategy and writing communications in education, politics, and/or other high-intensity, high-scrutiny organization.
LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES
Work Leadership. Regularly provides project management or team leadership to a group of two or more employees but does not have formal supervisory responsibility. Leading and directing typically involves monitoring work and providing guidance on escalated issues. Most of work time is spent performing many of same duties they are leading.
WORK COMPLEXITY/INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT
Work is non-standardized and widely varied, involving many complex and significant variables including significant time spent planning, evaluating complex solutions and issues, and negotiating outcomes. Strong analytic ability and inductive thinking are frequently required to devise new approaches to situations where previously accepted solutions have proven inadequate. Position regularly makes recommendations to management on areas of significance to the division. Supervision received typically consists of providing periodic coaching, advice, and feedback.

PROBLEM SOLVING
Decisions are made with greater freedom and discretion, including recommendations that are subject to approval on matters that may affect multiple departments across HISD. Job is frequently expected to recommend new solutions to problems, to improve existing methods/procedures/services and generate new ideas. May also review decisions made by other individuals on more routine matters.
IMPACT OF DECISIONS
Decisions have a major impact to multiple divisions or the organization and may impact the general direction of HISD. Errors may cause continuous adverse influence on the future operations of the organization, in matters involving important customer commitments, organizational liability, and other matters which may appreciably affect future costs.
COMMUNICATION/INTERACTIONS
Oversee and direct - serves as one of the organization's senior level spokespersons in area of expertise, defines and champions change initiatives, organizational strategies, services, policies, and practices. Interactions are typically with Top Management, the Board, and community and business leaders.
CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIPS
Anticipates customer needs, identifies, and champions opportunities for the development and implementation of new services and methods to meet or exceed customer needs. Establishes customer service standards and feedback mechanisms across departments.
WORKING/ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
Work is normally performed in a typical interior work environment which does not subject the employee to any hazardous or unpleasant elements. Ability to carry and/or lift less than 15 pounds.
