POSITION SUMMARY
Contributes to the organization by billing, follow-up and collection of all insurance claims; maintaining correspondence with carriers, and documentation regarding same; working with Revenue Recovery Manager to review problem accounts and identify necessary action to be taken.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Ability to read and understand insurance explanation of benefits (EOB) for accurate posting to patient accounts (balancing and resolving posting errors, including credits).
Streamlining of appropriate rebilling activity.
Resubmission of unpaid claims, for valid reason(s)
Posting denials and making contractual adjustments.
Transfer copay and deductible balances to patient responsibility.
Process electronic 835 files for accurate payment and denial posting.
Must be able to balance daily posting batches and reconcile daily deposits.
Familiar with federal and state requirements for collection and/or write-off of patient accounts.
Must be able to observe insurance and patient payment trends and report specifics to the manager.
Answer incoming patient related calls and be able to communicate thoroughly when explaining details of account charges to patients.
Claims processing and knowledge of Vision plans, Medicare and Medicaid
Contacts payers for status of unpaid claims. Resubmits claims to payer if no record of receipt and appeals low payment claims to maximize reimbursement
Performs according to compliance and all other policies and procedures.
Performs other duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
The position is located in an office environment.
Requires prolonged sitting, some bending, stooping, and stretching. Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator, and other office equipment. Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare and communicate. Work is performed in an office environment. Work may be stressful at times. Staff must remain flexible and available to provide staffing assistance for any/all disaster or emergency situations.

EDUCATION High school diploma or equivalent.
CERTIFICATIONS & LICENSES None required.
EXPERIENCE Three years minimum experience in medical office; billing and collections experience preferred.
