This position is included in a bargaining unit of Housing Works’ New York City employees represented by a labor union known as the Retail Wholesale and Department Store Union (“RWDSU”). Accordingly, the RWDSU has the exclusive right to bargain over the terms and conditions of employment related to this position and this position may become covered by the terms of a collective bargaining agreement (a “CBA”) between Housing Works and the RWDSU
Compensation Range: $17/hr - $19/hr commensurate with experience
Overview:
The Residential Aide (RA) ensures the wellbeing and safety of the program’s families with children during their shifts. The RA provides crisis intervention as needed to maintain safety and security. This position will work onsite at the Best Western Plus Hotel designed to be a safe space for migrant families with children. The RA works in shifts of 8am to 4pm, 4pm to 12am, and 12am-8am. Theschedule operates 7days a week, and all holidaysas needed.
Responsibilities:

  • The RA makes sure that program’s policiesand procedures are enforced and adhered to by program participants.
  • Build rapport with program participants and engage with them professionally and respectfully. When necessary, de-escalate tense, even hostile, client situations.
  • Ensure the safety, security and integrity of all participants, staff and guests, as well as the physical environment of the facility.
  • Review logbooks at the start of your shift to ensure staff are informed of the issues that took place and monitor activities that require immediate attention.
  • Always provide excellent customer service and confidentiality.
  • Distribute meals to families with children and help unpack and properly store meals that are delivered to site.
  • Perform light custodial work consisting of cleaning tables, chairs, minor spills, and removal of trash.
  • Communicate with the case management staff on families’ behavior as well as the care of those on the fragile list.
  • Conduct wellness checks to ensure, room assignments, maintains the daily census records and provides Department of Homeless Services (DHS) with daily census.
  • Always enforce the Residential Code of Conduct and/or House Rules.
  • Working in collaboration with Residential Aide Supervisor and security staff with writing and completing incident reports
  • Ensure the pantry is stocked with all essential needed for families.
  • Ability to climb stairs, walk throughout the hotel and stand to talk to the families.
  • Understand Mandate Reporting and the process of identifying child abuse.
Minimum Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED required, and at least one year of work experience.
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task.
  • Ability to work with a children in a residential capacity.
