Housing Transitions is Hiring an Assistant Director Housing Transitions and The HOME Foundation Near State College, PA

Do you have a passion for helping people? Do you also see a need for more affordable housing in Centre County? Are you detail oriented with great communication skills? This combination may make you the perfect candidate for the Assistant Director position at Housing Transitions and The HOME (Housing Opportunities Made Equitable) Foundation. We invite you to apply to join our leadership team in these dynamic organizations.

The Assistant Director will fill a new position and will report directly to the Executive Director of both organizations, which are non-profit, housing focused providers in Centre County. Housing Transitions was formed in 1984 to address homelessness and housing crises. The HOME Foundation is a Community Housing Development Organization, which focuses on developing affordable housing opportunities for low- to moderate-income households. The two organizations have separate tax id numbers, bank accounts, and missions, but share resources and the Executive Director and Finance Manager. With both organizations thriving and growing, we wish to add an Assistant Director who will develop a deep understanding of both the human service and housing development sides, while helping to realize a shared vision of a secure and affordable place to live for everyone in Centre County.

The successful candidate will have a variety of skill sets developed from professional and personal experiences. The position will have three main focus areas: human resource management, grant compliance, and supervision of our management team. Professional experience may come from (1) working in human and government services, housing related fields, or grant compliance, (2) playing a supervisory role in another non-profit, or (3) having an educational background in policy and administration.

A crucial skill for the position is being impeccably detail oriented. For example, the candidate should be able to interpret complex rules and regulations, synthesize a wide range of concepts, maintain and analyze statistics, and communicate effectively both in written and verbal forms.

Responsibilities will include ensuring that the requirements of a variety of government and local grants are met, and helping to apply for new grants, as well as completing renewals each year. The person in this position will provide supervision for our Program Manager, Centre House Shelter Manager, and Housing Counseling Manager, and oversee our Property Management and Housing Rehab activities. In addition, this role will provide human resource management in the form of onboarding new employees, maintaining our benefits package, helping to develop training plans and protocols for new and current staff, and being the point person for employee relations.

Other staff members in the organizations oversee financial management, and development and fundraising activities. However, the Assistant Director will join this team of leaders and provide input and collaborative effort in these areas.

General requirements of the job include strong interpersonal communication, at least 3-5 years of related experience, and a Bachelor’s degree in a related field. Starting salary range is $54,000-$60,000 per year with paid time off, paid holidays, and health insurance with options for vision and dental.

Housing Transitions and The HOME Foundation provide equal employment opportunities to all individuals without discrimination based on age, race, creed, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, disability, marital status, Vietnam Era Veteran status, genetic predisposition, or carrier status. The policy applies to all employment practices and actions. All qualified applicants are welcome and encouraged to apply.

Please submit a resume and cover letter explaining why you are the perfect fit for this position by March 31, 2024. For more information about Housing Transitions visit housingtransitions.org and about The HOME Foundation visit thehomefoundationcc.org.
