Housing Connect is Hiring a Porter/Groundskeeper - Now Hiring Near Salt Lake, UT

Job Description

The purpose of the Groundskeeper is to support the Mission of Housing Connect by providing high quality customer service, maintaining cleanliness and order, and promoting an attractive and safe environment for all public housing properties. This is done by following Housing Connect policies and procedures, by working with Property Managers and other Housing Connect staff, and by working with vendors to coordinate essential agency functions.

Work Schedule

Full-time Monday - Friday 7:00 am to 3:30 pm

Compensation

$15.00 - $18.00 per hour based on experience

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Responsible for daily upkeep of public housing grounds, buildings and amenities; cleaning and removal of trash and debris, including large bulk items.
  • Yard care to include mowing, trimming, edging and weeding.
  • Upkeep of sidewalks, driveways, parking lots and other grounds features.
  • Snow removal from walks, driveways and parking lots; spread salt in those areas.
  • Prune or trim trees, shrubs and hedges.
  • Erect and repair fences and gates.
  • Paint building exteriors and curbing.
  • Remove trash from vacant apartments (trash outs) prior to make-ready.
  • Operate vehicles and powered equipment.
  • Use hand tools such as shovels, rakes, pruning shears, saws, axes and trimmers.
  • Submit paperwork and appropriate documentation on a daily basis to Lead Property Manager.
  • Maintain accurate inventory account and records.
  • Responsible for knowledge of HUD policies, Housing Connect policies and procedures and local ordinances as they relate to the properties.
  • Maintain agency vehicle. This includes inspections, regular service, oil changes and cleaning.
  • Provide snow removal, as assigned.
  • Responsible for courteous, efficient response to residents, vendors and staff.
  • Responsible for maintaining Housing Connect uniform and ensuring a professional appearance and attitude.
  • Promote safe and attractive communities through positive interactions with tenants.
  • Must maintain a professional relationship with tenants.
  • Treat all tenants in a respectful non-judgmental manner.
  • Ensure client needs are met by providing interpretation and translation services, when appropriate, with the use of agency approved resources.
  • Respond to work orders, calls and other inquiries in a timely and responsive manner.
  • Maintain paperwork as required.
  • Attend and actively participate in all staff meetings and trainings.
  • Support Housing Connect co-workers as a team to accomplish department and agency goals.
  • Participate in Housing Connect activities and committees, as needed or desired.
  • Be aware of, and operate within, OSHA standards and company safety policies at all times.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on vehicle, tools and equipment to ensure they are in safe working condition.
  • Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor.
  • Report unusual or extraordinary circumstances regarding property or residents.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Ability to work outside in a variety of weather conditions.
  • Involves bending, kneeling, climbing and lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Self-starter, adaptable and good communicative skills.
  • Ability to follow instructions, both written and oral.
  • Ability to communicate with the elderly, individuals with disabilities, and low-income individuals and families.
  • Flexible and cooperative.
  • Approach problems proactively with solution focus.
  • Keep Management and Property Managers informed of work issues and incidents.
  • Prompt and dependable.
  • Ability to work with minimal day to day supervision.
