Why Camp Catalyst?

Camp Catalyst is a summer program designed exclusively for residents of Housing Catalyst. Our mission is to combat summer learning loss and foster the development of social-emotional learning skills among students entering 3rd through 5th grade. As the Camp Catalyst Manager, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing and coordinating all aspects of the camp program. Your primary responsibilities will include ensuring the safety and well-being of campers and staff, managing administrative tasks, and fostering a positive learning environment. In addition to academic support provided by Johnson Elementary teachers, campers will engage in various activities aimed at promoting a love of learning and a sense of belonging.

Schedule

Camp Catalyst Manager Position begins May 29th through August 14th of 2024; Tuesday - Thursday from 8:00 am to 5:00pm.

Camp Catalyst operates Tuesday - Thursday from July 9th to August 8th.

Compensation: $25.00 per hour.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:

The duties listed below represent the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific duties does not prevent the assignment of work appropriately related to this class.

  • Develop and implement camp activities in line with camp policies and guidelines.
  • Coordinate with the Director of Resident Services for program approval.
  • Plan and organize daily activities and site setup/cleanup.
  • Recruit and troubleshoot barriers for camper participation.
  • Supervise camp staff, communicate concerns to Director of Resident Services.
  • Cover lunch break for counselors.
  • Assist in hiring and training counselor team.
  • Assist with recruitment and addressing participation concerns.
  • Communicate with parents/guardians and address their questions and concerns.
  • Monitor participant behavior and enforce camp rules.
  • Manage emergency situations and report to the Director of Resident Services.
  • Assess program effectiveness and recommend changes.
  • Coordinate with Resident Services Coordinator for assistance as needed.
  • Maintain injury and accident reports.
  • Greet and assist parents during check-in/out.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and/or Experience

  • Minimum 21 years of age.
  • Minimum two summers of experience in a camp or daycare setting.
  • Previous experience working with diverse populations.
  • At least 60 credit hours from an accredited college or university.
  • CPR and First Aid, along with Child Abuse Prevention training within 30 days of hire.
  • Experience implementing age-appropriate program activities.
  • Must clear criminal background check.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Experience in program planning.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively.
  • Strong leadership, management, and organizational skills.
  • Experience with children who struggle with emotional regulation and knowledge of restorative models.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to walk, stand, sit, talk, and hear.
  • Occasional operation of objects or tools.
  • Climbing, balancing, stooping, or kneeling may be required.
  • Light lifting (5-10 lbs.) and infrequent heavy lifting (up to 50 lbs.).
  • Work both indoors and outdoors, exposed to various weather conditions.
