The Job
The Associate Director of Marketing is responsible for overseeing the implementation of Music Forward’s overarching brand, communications, and marketing strategy to enhance awareness and support of the organization’s program and development goals. The Associate Director is highly organized and collaborative, ensuring brand consistency across materials and developing cohesive marketing campaigns that foster significant youth, community, and industry engagement and create loyalty between partners and Music Forward. The Associate Director manages department staff and a network of design and communications contractors, and scopes other marketing resources (i.e. intern, volunteer roles). This position is based in Los Angeles in a hybrid office setting.

etails:
  • Manage marketing department team.Organize and lead team in the execution of innovative strategies and project plans that drive brand and program awareness, engagement, and conversion. Define team goals, support professional development, and manage performance of team. Identify and leverage contractors and volunteers for expertise.
  • Drive marketing strategy and the annual plan execution. Gather data and stakeholder input to inform strategy. Establish key milestones and timelines of major activities and define roles of team and contractors. Develop and track metrics for measuring success and ensure adherence to department budgets.
  • Oversee development and implementation of Music Forward’scommunications. In collaboration with Programs and Development staff, develop communication strategy and components (i.e.-newsletters, social, video, print, etc.) with the ultimate goals of expanding promotion reach and participation and deepening engagement (attendance, donations, volunteers, etc). Be the key point person for defining captured data to properly segment and grow audiences. Work with the Director of Operations to implement communications lists. Establish internal processes for approval, testing, and timelines, and refine to improve efficiency.
  • Guide online content development, including website, social, video on demand library. Recommend and oversee the process for approval, review, and timelines. Manage team, contractors, and interns to develop content. Identify resources needed and provide cost analysis for budget.
  • Provide input and support to winning and retaining strategic relationships. Recommend marketing strategies and content to create win-win partnerships with community and industry partners. Ensure sponsor benefits are fulfilled in a timely manner.
  • Drivemedia opportunities in collaboration with Music Forward’s executive team and contractors. Develop relationships to expand reach and promotion of our work.Provide project management, support, develop talking points, prepare speakers, review content, and plan for content capture. Leverage artist and high-profile engagement across all divisions of the organization. Develop and implement timeline of activities with support of external expertise as needed.
  • Provide input into marketing budget. Solicit quotes, estimate costs, provide forecasts.
  • Be a leader and active member of the team. Take initiative and collaborate across staff in support of Music Forward programming, fundraising, and operations. Research, brainstorm, recommend, and participate in required staff calls and meetings.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

What you bring
:
  • 5 years in marketing or related fields with experience in leadership or management roles
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to inspire a variety of audiences and articulate the importance of Music Forward’s work in a compelling manner
  • Expertise in creating and implementing successful and complex marketing campaigns
  • Excellent knowledge of digital marketing strategy and tools
  • Familiar with website architecture development and creation
  • Knowledge of the music industry required
  • Supervisory or management experience required
  • High level of comfort working across a diverse staff and constituent base, and conscientious of reaching out with an inclusive voice
  • Comfortable navigating and working with internal and external senior level executives, and public speaking
  • Sound judgment and a commitment to high professional ethical standards
  • Proven capacity to work individually and cooperatively as part of a team
  • Flexibility to work early mornings, evenings and weekends to represent Music Forward at events and to support programs and special events as needed
  • Ability and willingness to travel
This is a full-time, exempt position with a salary of $85k - $90k.
