NEW WATERLOO is hiring for a DUAL PROPERTY DIRECTOR OF FINANCE
New Waterloo is an independent hospitality development management company. We are seeking an experienced Director of Finance to provide leadership in the financials for Hotel Revival in Baltimore, MD and El Capitan Hotel in Merced, CA. This role will be based on-site in Baltimore,MD with occasional visits to Merced, CA.
Housed in a beautifully restored former mansion, Hotel Revival embodies a unique style of hospitality that is as bold in spirit as Charm City itself. With 107 guest rooms, a rooftop restaurant, cocktail lounge & karaoke room, and a coffee shop, the vibrant experience reflects and embraces its surrounding community. This award-winning property is internationally recognized for its commitment to Baltimore and success in social impact.
A luxurious translation of a road trip pit stop, El Capitan Hotel is a boutique hotel in downtown Merced, California. On the road to Yosemite, the hotel features 114 guest rooms, a historic theater, and four distinct dining experiences, all reflective of the surrounding Central Valley community.
JOB OVERVIEW
The Area Director of Finance is responsible for providing consistent leadership in the financials of the assigned properties by focusing on the profitability of the business, maintaining accurate and timely financial reporting, safeguarding owners/investors' assets, and ensuring acceptable levels of internal control. The Area Director of Finance will set standards for financial performance and day-to-day accounting while ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and New Waterloo standard operating procedures. A successful Area Director of Finance will bring a strong sense of pride and ownership to the role and be proactive in their understanding of, and input on the operational plans and budgets. This is an entrepreneurial role where one must have the skills to maximize the benefit of the resources available and build a strong culture of service and hospitality.
What you'll do:
- Verify the accuracy and timeliness of accounting functions at assigned properties: daily and month-end reporting, payroll processing, income audit, accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash and corporate card management
- Lead and develop property accounting staff to meet the needs of the business
- Manage and oversee the month-end close process, balance sheet reconciliations, and other timelines in coordination with corporate and property accounting staff
- Develop and achieve financial goals: Create the annual operating plan aligned with the company's strategic direction
- Provide analytical tools and support to department heads to manage costs and lead budget preparation
- Lead the operations teams and department heads in creating accurate monthly forecasts that allow the team to react to changes in business levels
- Ensure monthly P&Ls reflect accurate revenues, expenses, and cost of sales calculations
- Analyze daily and monthly variances between actual, forecasted, and budgeted performance
- Advise GM and executive team on financial and operational issues
- Ensure the property maintains compliance with local regulations, permits, and business licenses
- Analyze financial data and sales trends to identify opportunities for improvement
- Lead the property in developing and maintaining a strong labor culture that maximizes productivity and performance
- Facilitate weekly and monthly P&L reviews to uncover challenges, opportunities, and trends
- Manage the capital expenditure budget and reconcile expenses monthly
- Ensure strong accounting and operational controls to safeguard assets and maximize profits
- Manage the accurate collection, posting, and reconciliation of occupancy taxes and sales taxes
- Provide continuous direction to and education of the operational team in all areas related to finance financial reports, internal controls, labor management, payroll, P&L performance, etc.
- Monitor Front Office and Sales team financial operations and SOPs including review of hotel ledgers
- Foster strong relationships with all New Waterloo stakeholders by providing feedback that positively impacts the performance of the business and sharpens the financial acumen of the team

- A must: You have a degree in Accounting or Finance from an accredited four-year college or university.
- A must: You have 5 years of hotel financial management experience.
- A must: You have 5-7 years of general ledger accounting experience.
