Job Description

Hotel Equities, one of the top hotel ownership, development and management companies in the industry, is currently searching for a Senior Vice President of Hotel Accounting to join our growing organization.

This critical role is responsible for the enterprise wide Accounting team who support a large hotel portfolio consisting of a diverse group of branded and independent hotels in the US and Canada. Responsibilities include the organization and management of the hotel accounting teams who operate in a remote working environment, timely production of monthly financial statements and periodic reports, maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records, and a comprehensive set of controls to mitigate risk and enhance the accuracy of reported financial results that comply with generally accepted accounting principles.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Must intentionally lead and appropriately challenge the regional accounting team to ensure the timely and accurate preparation of accounting records and financial statements for the managed properties.
  • Review and approval of property financial statements and monthly financial records.
  • Plan and organize the work of the accounting team, adjusting team priorities as needed to ensure all reporting deadlines are met.
  • Develop and implement procedures and necessary training to promote the efficient, effective, and timely completion of accounting activities by property accountants.
  • Oversee the accounting and internal control functions of the regional accounting teams to ensure compliance.
  • Communicate with and provide training to the Operations team to assist with compliance.
  • Assist with both internal and external audits to ensure complete, timely and accurate responses to information requests.
  • Research and provide analysis and insight into financial trends, operational issues and variances to budgets and forecasts as needed by the Operations team.
  • Perform special projects and other responsibilities as assigned.
  • Ensure compliance and satisfaction of all government, company, franchise, and ownership requirements throughout job performance.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders including owners, regional leaders, general managers and or property accounting leaders.
  • Contribute to team effort by working with Vice President of Finance and peers within the organization, and other members of Executive Management.

  • The ability to build solid relationships with a variety of personalities.
  • Exceptional organization skills and forward-looking ability
  • A hands-on leadership approach to the accounting team, operations at the hotel and the Regional Leadership team.
  • Be able to strike a balance between tactical requirements of the position and strategic planning.
  • Comfortable leading a team who also works in a remote setting.
  • Welcomes the challenge of a fast-growing company and can problem solve in the moment.

Skills/Qualifications

  • 7 years’ experience as a senior-level accounting role
  • Site level Hotel or Hospitality Accounting experience.
  • Certified Public Accountant or Chartered Accountant highly preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or hospitality required.
  • NetSuite experience preferred.
  • Proven leadership in a team environment
  • High sense of urgency, detail, and process oriented, results driven
  • Detail and Task oriented, Strong communication and leadership skills.
  • Strong business acumen and the ability to relate to non-financial colleagues.
