Hotel Equities, a multi-award-winning hotel development and hospitality management company, is currently searching for a flexible and remarkable Security Officer for The Henry, Autograph Collection in Dearborn, Michigan.

GENERAL PURPOSE

To provide for the security and safety of the guests and the hotels during the night. Is familiar with and complies with the Inns of Monterey (IOM) standards and philosophy in performing all key areas of accountability and other essential duties and responsibilities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

Areas of Key Accountability:

  • Maintain the safety and security of our guests, employees and properties, and follows safety and security policies and procedures at all times
  • Provides guests with professional, efficient, prompt, and courteous service.
  • Patrols properties perimeter and garages in company truck.
  • Patrols properties interiors, hallways, and grounds and on foot.
  • Ensures all guestroom, store room, and office doors are closed and locked, and all public access doors locked.
  • Ensures all properties security alarms are on and security cameras are in working order.
  • Reports any suspicious activity to the Night Manager, Manager on Duty, and/or Monterey Police Department as necessary.
  • Does not take risks that might endanger self or others.
  • Maintains documented log of all nightly occurrences, suspicious activity, or anything out of the ordinary or requiring follow up. Completes all Night Security forms and reports.
  • Responds to all emergencies, incidents, or accidents. Investigates any reported disturbances and resolves complaints and concerns as possible. Completes incident reports as necessary.
  • Responds to guest requests quickly and courteously as reported by night auditors.
  • Completes nightly courier duties to various properties and offices in a responsible manner.
  • Performs minor maintenance as required. Initiates maintenance work order forms for maintenance staff follow up.
  • Acts in capacity of Valet at Spindrift Inn as necessary, parking and retrieving guest cars.
  • Checks that all vehicles in garages have parking permits; issues citations for violations.
  • Performs all duties in a safe manner and reports all accidents to supervisor immediately regardless of severity.
  • Adheres to key control policy and procedure according to set standards.
  • Provides input into enhancing the standards of the night security department.
  • Adheres to and promotes the PHR Compass Points Standards.

Other Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Carries and responds to company cellular phone at all times while on duty.
  • Is aware of Emergency Procedures and can apply them actively in an emergency situation.
  • Oversees outside hired security during special events.
  • Performs any cleaning duties as assigned. 
  • Delivers break food items to night auditors one time per night.
  • Maintains a teamwork orientation toward co-workers and other departmental staff members.
  • Attends and participates in departmental meetings as scheduled.
  • Completes all assigned reports and paperwork in timely manner.
  • Adheres to established uniform and grooming policies.
  • Responsible for clear and effective communications.
  • Assists in training new/other employees.
  • Performs other duties as assigned. 

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Education/Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Equipment/Computer Expertise: Ability to operate general maintenance equipment such as plunger, etc.
  • Language Skills: Ability to read, understand and speak English. Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized or unusual situations.
  • Certificates/Licenses/Registrations: CPR certification may be required. Valid driver’s license with good driving record required.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is rarely exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Performance Evaluation: Evaluation of performance of areas of key accountability, other job functions and responsibilities as well as attendance, proper uniform, etc., will be done by way of input based on observance from the Director of Operations, Night Manager, Guest comments and Comment Cards, as well as co-worker and other management input.

Skills

Excellent hearing required to communicate with guests, employees, managers, use radio.

Excellent vision required for emergencies, visual safety inspections.

Excellent speech communication skills required to communicate with guests, employees, managers, use radio

Excellent comprehension and literacy required to complete reports, logs.

Abilities

Lifting, pushing, pulling, carrying: May be necessary to carry people or equipment in emergency situation.

Bending/kneeling would be necessary in administering CPR and First Aid.

Availability would be necessary 100% of the time in responding to emergencies and patrolling the building.

Continuous standing - would not be standing in one place for any extended length of time.

Uses stairs in responding to fire alarms - no elevators.

Flexibility in working shifts

Education/Formal Training

High school education or equivalent experience.

Experience

Minimum two years prior experience in loss prevention.

Material/Equipment Used

Use of portable radio, telephone, copy machine and computer.

Environment

Work inside 85% of 8 hours; outside 15% of 8 hours.

Abnormal temperatures - summer 97 degrees; winter - 5 degrees.
