Technology Field Technician

DEPARTMENT: Technology JOB STATUS: Full Time

POSITIONS SUPERVISED: N/A REPORTS TO: Director of Technology

GRADE/LEVEL: N/A F.L.S.A: Not Exempt

WORK SCHEDULE: 240 contracted days

POSITION SUMMARY

The Technology Field Technician provides support, maintenance, and monitoring of the District’s technology systems and peripherals with an emphasis on field work; assists in troubleshooting all network device related issues, including end user device repair and systems management for all district facilities; assists other department personnel; and performs related duties as required or assigned by the Director of Technology.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To install, configure, maintain, upgrade, and troubleshoot district approved operating systems and related software.
  • To install, configure, maintain, manage, upgrade, troubleshoot, and repair district approved computers, peripherals, mobile devices and other technology related devices and equipment.
  • To troubleshoot network, server, computer, peripheral, and software problems while seeking assistance from, and escalating to support specialists when necessary.
  • To assist department personnel in maintaining the network, including installing cabling and all other LAN equipment.
  • To assist in the implementation, maintenance, and management of the district’s IT disaster recovery plan and other data backups when requested.
  • To use imaging technology to create and deploy software packages to district devices.
  • To coordinate warranty repair activities.
  • To perform work related assignments at various district sites remotely and on on-site.
  • To provide a positive “customer first” level of service in support of district technology users.
  • To adhere to and assists in enforcing technology policies, rules, and regulations and reports violations to the Director of Technology or other appropriate officials and/or administrators.
  • To prepare or revise complex documentation in non-technical terms for users.
  • To collaborate with site-based technology specialists and appropriate office staff to ensure smooth integration and use of technology.
  • To provide technology phone support, handling inquiries, and making referrals to specialists when appropriate.
  • To provide training for district computer users.
  • To participate in staff meetings, workshops, conferences, and classes and attend any required training in order to maintain or advance work related skills as necessary or as determined by the Director of Technology.
  • To perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Technology or the Superintendent.

EDUCATION AND LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS

Associates Degree with an accredited educational institution preferred. Post-secondary training in the field of electronics, networking, or technology required. Other requirements per job description.

EXPERIENCE

Minimum of one year experience in a job related field or educational equivalency. Other requirements per job description.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Hand-eye and mind-eye coordination. Constant hearing; intermittent speaking, standing, walking and writing. Frequent carrying, keyboarding, and other repetitive movements. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 10 pounds as needed to move objects often.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Excellent oral and written communication skills. Skills in human relations, leadership, and conflict management. Knowledgeable of teaching techniques that meet the diverse needs of students. Demonstrated skills in the use of technology to enhance student learning.
