GENERAL:

In accordance with the Hot Springs County Hospital District Personnel Policy and Procedure Manual and the requirements of our accrediting bodies, the employee will: support the mission

SUMMARY:

The Staff Accountant assists the Controller with daily, monthly, and annual accounting functions, and provides support to the Finance Department in other areas as needed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Assist with monthly financial close by preparing journal entries and supporting schedules
  2. Facilitate and complete other month-end close procedures
  3. Analyze revenues and expenses to ensure they are recorded appropriately on a monthly basis
  4. Maintain monthly reconciliations of balance sheet accounts
  5. Prepare monthly bank account reconciliations
  6. Assist with AP functions
  7. Assist with Payroll functions
  8. Prepare documentation for external auditors
  9. Prepare schedules for annual tax return
  10. Assist with preparation of annual budget
  11. Assist with preparation of cost report information
  12. Other projects as assigned

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance preferred
  • 2 years’ experience in accounting
  • Experience in healthcare preferred

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read, analyze, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write policies and procedures that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • BLS

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Strong understanding of accounting theory
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills
  • Able to read and understand technical forms and financial reports
