  • QUALIFICATIONS
    • Required: Ph.D. or Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology or Neuropsychology - required
    • Required: Licensure/license eligible by the State of Connecticut as a Psychologist - required
    • Preferred: Completion of a one year post-doctoral training program in Neuropsychology or equivalent supervised training experience in Neuropsychology.
    • Preferred: Minimum of one year experience working in a rehabilitation or chronic care setting with a variety of patient populations.
    • Preferred: Board Certified in respective areas.
  • JOB SUMMARY
    • The Neuropsychologist/Consultant provides psychological/neuropsychological examination, behavior management and related treatment/ education to assigned patients. He/She consults with treatment teams for management of cases, families for education and/or treatment, and with the various treatment teams leadership as requested. 
  • PHYSICAL DEMANDS
    • The position of Neuropsychologist requires the ability to sit for long periods of time, observing and listening to patients and staff, with periods of walking and standing. It is occasionally required to be able to lift and/or push/pull up to 20 pounds. Gross grasp is necessary in both hands and fine manipulation is required in the dominant hand. This position also may require the ability to drive to other treatment locations or external events on a regular basis.
  • COGNITIVE DEMANDS
    • This position requires independent problem identification, abstract reasoning and adaptability to foreign environments and information and quick decision-making. A high degree of selective attention, discernment, perception and/or concentration are also necessary.
    • High degree of writing proficiency including attention to detail, adherence to all elements of style, and ability to postulate.
    • High level of communication skills including expression of abstract/complex ideas, use of negotiation and active listening, and an ability to dialogue with multiple parties.
    • Requires and ability to comprehend abstractions and to make inferences. A working knowledge and familiarity with professional (e.g. medical/psychological) terms and definitions is required.
    • Basic understanding of Algebra, Calculus, and Statistics.
  • WORK DEMANDS
    • This position requires working in the hospital, particularly on the patient units part of the time. This means occasional exposure to wet, humid, or dry conditions, as well noise, odors, hazards, and blood borne pathogens. The Neuropsychologist occasionally works alone, but usually is working with a variety of individuals, often in crowded areas. This position also requires on-call coverage for at least one week per month for the whole department.
  • ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
    • Provides appropriate, timely evaluation and follow-up with assigned patients, per departmental policies. Documentation and billing is completed per departmental and hospital requirements.
    • Provides prompt suicide risk screenings, per policy, of assigned patients, with immediate documentation of results. Follows all guidelines of the on-call policy.
    • Provides consultation, direct care services, and other needed activities, as requested by the Chief of Psychology.
    • Supports research endeavors that may require his/her participation.
    • Keeps Chief informed regarding patient issues, potential complaints, and system problems or concerns, as well as personal productivity.
    • Maintains awareness of, and adheres to, hospital policies and procedures. This includes the Hospital QI and Psychology QI programs, as well as OPPE, Peer Review, and departmental educational opportunities.
