Hospice of Michigan is Hiring a Director Medical Records & Clinical Project Management Near Ann Arbor, MI

The Director, Medical Records & Clinical Project Management is responsible for overseeing the management, organization, and security of medical records, as well as leading clinical project initiatives to enhance patient care and operational efficiency of NorthStar Care Community. This role requires a combination of clinical knowledge, leadership skills, and project management expertise to drive quality improvements within the hospice and palliative care setting.

Essential Functions:

  1. Oversees the management and maintenance of all patient medical records in accordance with regulatory requirements, including HIPAA and state-specific guidelines.
  2. Develops and maintains systems for the electronic storage and retrieval of medical records, ensuring accessibility and confidentiality for authorized users.
  3. Develops and implements policies and procedures for the organization's medical records department to ensure efficient and accurate record-keeping practices.
  4. Leads and manages clinical projects aimed at improving patient care and operational processes.
  5. Collaborates with clinical staff to identify areas for improvement and develop project plans.
  6. Monitors project progress, manages timelines, and ensures deliverables are met.
  7. Utilizes data analytics to assess project outcomes and inform decision-making.
  8. Provides guidance, training, and support to assigned staff to ensure high-quality performance and adherence to best practices in both areas of medical records and clinical project management.
  9. Collaborates with clinical and administrative teams to streamline documentation processes and enhance the overall efficiency of medical record management and clinical projects.
  10. Ensures the integrity and security of patient health information through the implementation of appropriate safeguards and compliance measures.
  11. Stays informed about changes in healthcare regulations and standards related to medical record-keeping and ensures organizational compliance with these requirements.
  12. Coordinates audits and reviews of medical records to assess accuracy, completeness, and compliance with regulatory standards.

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management, Nursing, Healthcare Administration, or related field required; Master's degree preferred.
  2. Minimum of five (5) years of experience in medical records management or a related role in a healthcare setting.
  3. Minimum of two (2) years of experience in a leadership or supervisory role.
  4. Proven experience in clinical project management, preferably in a hospice and palliative care setting.
  5. Certified as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) preferred.
  6. Thorough understanding of healthcare regulations, including HIPAA, HITECH, and CMS guidelines, as they relate to medical record-keeping.
  7. Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems and other medical record management software is required.
