Horn and Associates, Inc. is a geotechnical drilling company, located in Winchester, KY and our business is to drill, sample and test the earth to provide data for engineers to design, or repair, anything that is built on, with or through the earth or which utilizes the earth's minerals. Examples are: new highways, railroads, pipelines, coal mines, quarries, building foundations, and earth dams. To do this, we operate drill rigs. These drills are operated by a driller and the driller is assisted by one or two driller helpers. As well, the drilling operation is supported by individuals with truck driving experience (Class A or B CDL), dozer and excavator operation experience, and mechanic experience.

All the positions are very physically demanding and we work outside in almost all weather
conditions, except a lightning storm. As well, our work is also executed outside of Winchester most of the time. You will typically get to our office in Winchester at 7:00 AM Monday and travel out of town in company vehicles, typically within a 5 hour radius of Winchester. While traveling, we put you up in a hotel and provide expense money. About 70% of the time you will finish your minimum 40 hr shift and be home Thursday night. About 20% of the time you will have to work on Friday and you will typically end up working 3 or 4 ten day on/4 day off shifts over the course of the year.

Minimum starting pay for driller helpers/laborers is $ 18 per hour, but the pay may be significantly higher for drillers, equipment operators and drivers and will be based on relevant experience, qualifications, and certifications. After a 90 day probation period, we provide health insurance, life insurance, dental insurance, long term disability insurance, vacation pay, uniforms and the opportunity to participate in a SIMPLE IRA retirement plan. A Class A or B CDL, surface mine card, prior drilling operation experience, and or some experience on or around equipment will give you an advantage over other applicants. However, the only true requirement is that you have a driver’s license and a good driving record.
