About Horizons St. Louis in Kirkwood
Our Mission: To inspire a brighter future for students most in need by providing opportunities to experience high-quality academics, engaging enrichment activities, and healthy life skills.
The Horizons Approach: Horizons St. Louis in Kirkwood serves students K-5 who are eligible to attend Kirkwood Schools. These students come from families with financial need and have experienced learning loss in literacy, math, or both. Horizons’ students attend a 6-week summer program on the campus of a Kirkwood school and receive additional support throughout the year. In small classes led by professional teachers and qualified leaders, students dive into a rich project-based curriculum with a focus on STEAM and literacy. Enrichment experiences and activities enhance and supplement the STEAM and literacy curriculum. In addition, swimming lessons are provided to every student. These and other confidence-boosting activities break down barriers to success and expose children to new opportunities. Year-round connections between Horizons staff and students and families continue during the school year.
The Lead Swim Instructor
This position will work at Horizons St. Louis in Kirkwood (HSK) to implement a high-quality learning experience that supports healthy youth development in a six- week summer enrichment program. The Lead Instructor will work part-time according to the dates and times established in the program schedule for swim lessons (Tuesday-Thursday). Additional time may be required for planning, training and orientation.
With safety as the first priority, the Lead Instructor must be a professional, caring individual with the ability to assist in the implementation of strategies to engage students in active learning. A successful Lead Instructor is highly adaptable and able to address any arising situation with ease and confidence and will enjoy working as a team player to help fulfill the HSK mission.
