Microsurgery in general and Ophthalmology are subfields of surgery for which the surgical outcomes can be significantly improved by robotic systems to allow superior dexterity, precision, accuracy, and visualization beyond the human surgeon’s own capabilities.

In your role as an engineer at Horizon Surgical Systems, you will design components and systems (hardware and software) as part of a complete product subjected to FDA regulations. Your design will be subject to safety and efficacy requirements.

The level of title will be determined case by case, based on the candidate's qualifications and years of experience: senior engineer, staff engineer, or higher.

Required Qualifications and Abilities:

  • Education and Working Experience:
    • Bachelor (ideally with at least 3 years of industrial experience), or Masters Degree (ideally with at least 2 years of industrial experience) in Robotics related or Engineering fields
  • Qualifications/Skills
    • Hands-on experience in developing and execution of hardware in-the-loop robotic system test and data collection
    • Experience in data analysis, writing and presentation of experimental results
    • Knowledge of robotic systems, sensors, control systems, and automation
    • Familiarity with imaging, computer vision, and AI/ML algorithms
    • Proficiency with scripting languages such as Python
    • Programming experience in Linux
    • Strong communication (verbal and written) and documentation skills
    • (Preferred) Experience in automation of robotic or electro-mechanical system test
    • (Preferred) Experience in medical device development or supporting the regulatory approval process such as FDA
    • (Preferred) Experience with version control software such as Git
  • Other Expectations:

  • Responsibilities:
    • Design and execute tests and data collection of robotics systems that are developed for Ophthalmic procedures
    • Identify and investigate failure points of the systems to improve the performance and safety
    • Establish and maintain test protocols
    • Document experiment procedures and results, and perform data analysis
    • Communicate with team members on experimental results
