Horizon Science Academy Primary is Hiring a School Counselor/Social Worker Near Columbus, OH

Horizon Science Academy Primary is looking for a Counselor/Social Worker who is committed to educational success for all students to join our family oriented team. Job Description:The School Counselor applies theory, principles and methods to assist in the prevention, assessment, evaluation, formulation and implementation of a plan of action based on student and family needs and strengths. The School Counselor intervenes to address the mental, social, emotional, behavioral, and developmental conditions and disabilities experienced by students and families within our school community.

Responsibilities:
  • Support the school's mission, philosophies, values, goals, and policies toward students, parents/guardians and coworkers
  • Provide individual and group counseling regarding personal, peer, or family problems to students referred for help.
  • Provide crisis intervention; assist with conflict resolution and anger management, and aid in the development of appropriate social interaction skills.
  • Assist the child in understanding and accepting self and others.
  • Address issues that impact students at risk of failing to attain their full academic potential.
  • Assist students to evaluate their abilities, interest, talents, and personality characteristics in order to develop realistic academic and career goals.
  • Provide behavioral management consultation and planning; including classroom observation, monitoring, and follow-up for students needing additional interventions.
  • Assist in the creation of Functional Behavioral Assessments and behavior plans.
  • Provide classroom social emotional learning discussions and presentations.
  • Collaborate with school teams to develop and monitor Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals.
  • Provide support and consultation to school staff as needed.
  • Actively participate in assigned meetings with families, school teams, and multiple agencies.
  • Refer Child Protective cases as needed.
  • Initiate referrals to mental health agencies and collaborate with appropriate representatives.
  • Participate in school-wide attendance initiatives.
  • Mediate conflict between stakeholders.
  • Act as a school-community liaison.
  • Attend parent teacher conferences.
  • Visit students’ homes to help families understand school policies, services, and programs, as well as, promote the wellbeing of stakeholders in the home.
  • Prepare and maintain student counseling records.
  • Communicate effectively with faculty, staff, and students.
  • Demonstrate flexibility in performing other related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor's degree or Master's Degree
  • Valid OH certificate/license or must be in the process of obtaining a valid OH certificate/license in social work or counseling
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:
  • Compensation packages are competitive and commensurate with experience. Horizon Science Academy offers a comprehensive benefit package that includes medical, dental and vision, life and disability coverage. Employees are eligible to participate in the Ohio STRS (state retirement system).
  • HSA also offers tuition Reimbursement up to $3000 per year, moving expenses up to $2,500, and ample professional development opportunities.
