Qualifications


The Youth Engagement Specialists main purpose is to provide crisis intervention within the community for students in need of behavioral health support in schools with a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).The Youth Engagement Specialist will promptly respond to the school, and/or will work directly on campus. This position shall intervene to alleviate the participants immediate social, emotional or environmental crisis; and assess, evaluate, triage and refer the participant for appropriate follow-up treatment to support a return to an effective lifestyle.

Qualifications Required

  • Bachelors degree behavioral health/medical related field plus one (1) year of experience in behavioral health; or combination of education and experience in behavioral health to meet Behavioral Health Technician (BHT) qualifications.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age or older.
  • Possess valid drivers license with acceptable driving record and reliabletransportation.
  • Prior experience and training in assessment tools
  • Trained in crisis intervention and offer services to agency participants and residents in thecommunity.
  • Knowledge of appropriate referrals and placements within the treatment continuum.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide counseling/case management to child participants in the Mental Healthprogram.
  • Experience working with children in Integrated Healthcare, Behavioral Health or Primary Careenvironment.
  • Maintain current crisis de-escalationtraining and Critical Incident and Stress Management Training.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of special populations such as substance abuse.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop treatment plan and summary based on participants needs.
  • Demonstrated ability to distinguish between alcohol and other drug-related symptoms and other pre-existing physical problems or pathologic behaviors.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand the biopsychosocial influences and effects of dependencies.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of how the acute and chronic nature of the dependence and the ways medical, emotional, behavioral, social, educational and other interventions are used to treat the participant.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of referral resources available to participants.
  • Able to effectively employ analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Must be certified in First Aid and CPR
  • This position requires successful completion of background check along with obtaining and maintaining a Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance card through Arizona DPS and clearance with the Pinal County Sheriff’s office to ensure access to the Correctional Facilities.

Physical

  • Long periods of sitting, ability to bend, lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Able to operate phone, Fax, copier and a computer.
  • Able to work at the school as assigned.
  • Able to operate Agency vehicle.

Qualifications Preferred

  • Masters degree or Doctorate in Psychology or behavioral health/medical related field plus one (1) year of experience in behavioral health.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish
  • Advanced knowledge of cultural diversity and sensitivity
