POSITION TITLE: Activities Director REPORTS TO: School Superintendent DEPARTMENT: District Administration CATEGORY: Certified

CONTRACT TERM: Twelve Months (12) CLASSIFICATION: Exempt

JOB SUMMARY: Activities Director position who are enthusiastic, organized, and looking for the opportunity to support students and staff. The Activities Director will coordinate logistics for extracurricular activities. Hopi Junior/Senior High School is committed to helping all students develop skills in the areas of personal-social growth and educational planning and recognizes the importance of including family and community members to be part of this development.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  1. Coordinates schedules of interscholastic, extracurricular activities, and school clubs; Maintains master calendar of events for both junior and senior high school.
  2. Coordinates meals and overnight arrangements for all athletics activities and field trips.
  3. Coordinates transportation requests for all activities/athletic trips, and field trips.
  4. Coordinates and submits the activities budget to the Principals.
  5. Completes end of year inventories for all activities/athletic programs and reports this to the Principals.
  6. Coordinates facilities and specific preparation for all activities/athletic events.
  7. Represents the district at the Arizona Interscholastic Association (AIA) conference, regional and state meetings as mandated.
  8. Coordinates the management of student/parent permission forms, insurance paperwork, physicals documentation, and emergency cards to ensure that all students have the protection and parental approval to participate in extracurricular activities.
  9. Ensures all students complete necessary eligibility requirements including concussion training.
  10. Ensures AIA compliance and eligibility.
  11. Coordinates staff development for coaches/sponsors and provides assistance at trainings as needed.
  12. Coordinates year-end evaluations of all head coaches.
  13. Coordinates game management and ensures proper game supervision.
  14. Coordinates and ensures summer programs are implemented.
  15. Serves as primary sponsor of the student body government.
  16. Adheres to other duties or needs as determined by site principal.
  17. Conducts duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Hopi Junior/ Senior High School Governing Board Policies and Procedures.
  18. Performs other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

  1. Ability to maintain accurate records and reports.
  1. Knowledge and skill to coordinate complex logistics.
  2. Skilled in oral and written communication.
  3. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
  4. Ability to adhere to schedules and timelines.
  5. Ability to complete work with many interruptions.
  6. Knowledge of relevant Hopi Junior/Senior High School district rules of conduct and ethics.
  7. Knowledge of Native cultures and values Knowledge of Governing Board rules of conduct and policy.
  8. Skill in communicating orally and in writing.
  9. Manage conflict constructively at all levels.
  10. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with others, requiring the ability to interact professionally and courteously with students, faculty, staff and the public.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Must possess an Arizona State Elementary or Secondary teaching certificate or ability to obtain appropriate endorsement to serve in this capacity required.

PREFERRED QUAILIFICATIONS:

  1. Hopi/Indian Preference in employment considered.
  2. Previous successful experience in serving as an Activities/Athletic Coordinator within a Tribally Controlled School or other BIE funded school.
  3. Valid State Driver Licenses.
  4. Valid Arizona Department of Public Safety Fingerprint Clearance Card.
  5. Must successfully pass employment background checks within the last five years which include state, federal and local tribe.

INDIAN PREFERENCE POLICY: Hopi/Indian preference in employment will be practiced, in accordance to the Hopi Tribe, “any person who is presently an enrolled member of the Hopi Tribe.” Shall mean that in selection process Indian candidates who meet or surpass qualifications for a position shall be given preference for positions established by the Governing Board.
