Registered Dietitian Nutritionist

JOB SUMMARY:

The dietitian will provide nutrition assessment and education to hospital patients, nursing home residents, outpatients, and Wellness Center clients. The dietitian will assist and educate on nutrition-related issues to other departments throughout the medical complex.

JOB DUTIES:

• Provide clinical MNT services for the hospital and nursing home areas. Conduct patient rounds; participating in patient care meetings for both areas.
• Provide outpatient nutrition counseling services.
• Monitor the nutritional needs of residents at the Commons facility; provide MNT services as consulted by a physician.
• Responsible for compliance with TCHD, Medicare, and IDPH regulations regarding nutrition and dietetics for the hospital and the nursing home.
• Develop and review clinical nutrition policies.
• Provide advisement on dietary policies and procedures.
• Attend department head meetings as requested.
• Participate on committees as assigned or elected.
• Participate in nutrition-based quality improvement studies.
• Develop and conduct in-services for the nursing and dietary staff as requested.
• Develop and conduct nutrition programs for Wellness Center members.
• Develop and provide nutrition education for patients completing the Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehab program.
• Develop materials to meet the needs of HMC's client basis, i.e. bariatric, diabetic, and employee wellness.
• Aid on interdepartmental conflict resolution and system organization.
• Supervise clinical duties as performed by the Certified Dietary Manager or Food Service Director.
• Provide peripheral supervision to the Food Service department, providing clinical direction to the Food Service Director as needed.
• Work alongside the Food Service Director to secure, approve, and adjust the cycle, holiday, alternate, and daycare menus.

REQUIREMENTS (Credentials, Previous Experience, Education, other pertinent skill):

• Bachelor's degree in nutrition and dietetics, or related field (Master's Degree will be required for new graduates by 2024).
• Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, licensed by the Commission on Dietetic Registration and the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (i.e. RDN, LDN)
• Certified food handler, required. ServSafe certified, preferred.
• Two years of experience in both food service and clinical nutrition, preferred.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILL/ABILITY REQUIREMENTS:

• Knowledge of principles of nutrition and dietetics.
• Able to function well as a member of an interdisciplinary health care team.
• Maintain education and skills that allow for carrying out the duties as described by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Scope of Practice.
• Abide by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Code of Ethics for the Nutrition and Dietetics Profession.
