The role of the Dispatcher – Long Haul is to schedule, assistant and coordinate with Long Haul Drivers. Maintains communications with drivers, coordinates schedules, ensures timely arrivals and deliveries for our customers.

Responsibilities:

  • Cultivate a strong relationship with drivers and branches.
  • Ensure drivers are compliant with state and federal DOT laws and regulations.
  • Responsible for settling driver’s commissions statements and helping drivers understand commissions and chargebacks.
  • Work with accounting department to ensure driver charge backs and payments are timely and correct.
  • Partner with drivers to estimate the number of labor hours required to complete the job and provide appropriate amount of Comdata for drivers.
  • Troubleshoots problems as they arise throughout the delivery process, communicating appropriately with sales, warehouse and coordinator; manages problems promptly when needed.
  • Work closely with the coordinators, warehouse team, sales and agents to determine dates/times for delivery feasibility.
  • Daily communication with drivers on ETA for origin and destination, update branch teams of any changes.
  • Responsible for paperwork accuracy associated with all moves. Providing drivers with paperwork for origin.
  • Provide proactive internal customer service to drivers by:
    • Emailing drivers their schedules for the day and weekly.
    • Call drivers to make sure they understand the schedules and discuss any changes needing to be made.
    • Ensure drivers will not go over hours of services limits per DOT regulations.
    • Provide updated email communications of any changes.
    • Remind drivers of upcoming inspections, CDL and DL renewal dates, medical cards expirations dates.
  • Coordinate and assist drivers with:
    • Setting up shuttles if needed.
    • Setting up labor if needed.
    • Help drivers obtain packing material if needed.
  • Communicate with Bookers to obtain survey results, paperwork, etc…
  • Be ready to display agility and balance priorities as different business needs arise.
  • Responsible to work with drivers to make sure they turn in logs or certify ELDs by end of day of delivery or by the next morning at the latest.
  • Maintain and contribute to a safe work environment by adhering to policies and procedures as outlined in the Company Safety Program.
  • Perform any other task or assignment as deemed necessary by the organization.

Qualifications


Education and/or Experience and Requirements:

  • Previous experience in moving and storage industry, preferred.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 6 months dispatching or related experience, preferred.
  • Working knowledge or ability to quickly learn basic planning and dispatching process.
  • Knowledge of U.S. geography (locations of and distances between major cities).
  • Proficient knowledge of all Microsoft Office applications.
  • Knowledge of DOT rules & regulations and HOS (hours of service), preferred
  • Able to pass pre-employment drug screen.
  • Excellent organization, administration and time management skills.
  • Highly effective analytical, decision-making, and written/verbal communication skills.
  • Able to set and complete priorities effectively.
  • Must be able to work long hours, after hours or weekend, as needed, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
  • Ability to manage long distance drivers, independent contractors and agents.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with drivers, coworkers, agents, and customers.
  • Must be eligible to be employed in the United States.
  • Must speak, read and write English fluently.
