Hope for Bereaved is Hiring a Director of Development (Non-Profit) Near Syracuse, NY

Company Description: HOPE for Bereaved is a leading nonprofit organization dedicated to providing compassionate support and solace to individuals, families, and organizations navigating the challenging journey of grief. With a history spanning over 45 years, HOPE for Bereaved offers a range of services including support groups, individual counseling, educational workshops, and community outreach programs.

Position Summary: HOPE for Bereaved is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Director of Development to lead our fundraising and donor engagement efforts. Reporting directly to the Executive Director, the Director of Development will be responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive fundraising strategies to support the organization's mission and programs. In this newly established role, you play a pivotal role in setting benchmarks for future growth and development.

Responsibilities:

1. Develop and execute a strategic fundraising plan to meet annual revenue goals, including major gifts, corporate sponsorships, grants, and individual giving.

2. Cultivate and steward relationships with current and prospective donors, including individuals, corporations, foundations, and community partners.

3. Lead all aspects of donor cultivation and engagement, including donor prospecting, solicitation, acknowledgment, and recognition.

4. Oversee the planning and execution of fundraising events and appeals, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and objectives.

5. Collaborate with the Executive Director and program staff to identify funding needs and opportunities, and to develop compelling grant proposals and reports.

6. Manage the donor database and ensure accurate and timely recording of donor interactions and contributions.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in nonprofit fundraising, with a track record of success in individual giving, major gifts, and/or institutional fundraising.
  • Knowledge of fundraising best practices, donor cultivation techniques, and CRM systems.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to be flexible, patient, and forward-thinking.
  • Passion for the mission and values of HOPE for Bereaved and a commitment to supporting individuals and families coping with grief.
  • A 2- or 4-year degree in a relevant field a plus, but not required.

Benefits: This position is part time and not eligible for benefits. However, there is potential for this position to transition into full time in the future based on performance. We also offer opportunities for professional development and flexibility within the organization.
