Hoofprint Biome is a venture-backed start-up that is leveraging biotechnology to avert the climate crisis. We are engineering enzymes and probiotics to eliminate methane emissions from cattle while also improving nutritional quality and yield. We’re looking for a talented scientist who is passionate about animal, human, and planetary health. You must be motivated, comfortable with a fast-paced work environment, team oriented, and committed to building exceptional products. Your role relies on both scientific design and wet-lab execution. You will play a critical role in engineering probiotics for cleaner, more efficient, and more sustainable animal agriculture.

Responsibilities

• Enhance protein secretion from probiotic Bacillus and Lactobacillus strains using gene editing technologies
• Support ongoing yeast engineering projects
• Apply metabolic engineering, molecular cloning, and directed evolution techniques to improve probiotic strain fitness in-vivo
• Study probiotic impacts on cattle health and performance
• Evaluate probiotic fitness in cattle rumen microbial communities
• Work with formulations and process development teams to enhance manufacturing and storage of probiotic strains

What you bring to the team:

• PhD in microbiology, bioengineering, biology, synthetic biology, chemical engineering, molecular biology, or related field.
• Exceptional knowledge of microbial metabolism, fermentation, and engineering thereof
• Microbial strain engineering experience and expertise (in Bacillus or Lactobacillus is desirable)
• Molecular biology expertise (cloning, gene editing, and metabolic engineering)
• Leadership in innovative scientific research & development
• Experience with bioinformatics, high-throughput screening, and next-generation sequencing is a plus
• Team oriented, comfortable working independently and with a team.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills
• Curiosity, intention, tenacity, team mindset, and accountability to the mission
